Dominic Thiem completed his victory
over Philipp Kohlschreiber on Monday to capture his seventh ATP
title in the rain-interrupted Mercedes Cup final at Stuttgart,
Germany.
Third-seeded Thiem of Austria won 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4 in two hours
and 11 minutes. The match was suspended on Sunday with
seventh-seeded Kohlschreiber of Germany taking a 3-2 lead in the
tiebreaker when play was halted due to rain.
"It feels absolutely unreal because I came here without any
expectations basically, and I'm pretty sure that it's the most
special title for me," the 22-year-old Thiem said.
"I didn't play that well on grass over the past two years, and this
tournament was so strong. I'm the winner here, I really cannot
believe it."
Ricoh Open
Nicolas Mahut of France became a three-time Ricoh Open champion when
he beat Gilles Muller 6-4, 6-4 in the rain-delayed final at The
Hague, Netherlands.
The eighth-seeded wild card defeated the seventh-seeded Muller of
Luxembourg in 76 minutes for his fourth ATP World Tour grass-court
title.
"Playing a final is always special, but this was different," the
34-year-old Mahut said. "Getting the trophy is the most important
thing. Winning the tournament as the World No. 1 in doubles is
really special. I started the match really well and tried to relax.
I know winning a title doesn't happen every week.
"Yesterday, I had to change my flights. I will now go to the airport
for the earliest flight to London. I have to be ready to play Andy
Murray (Tuesday) at the Aegon Championships."
ATP Aegon Championships

American Steve Johnson upset No. 4 Richard Gasquet of France 7-6
(2), 6-2 in the weather-delayed first round of the ATP Aegon
Championships at Queen's Club, London.
Heavy downpours swept across the Queen's Club and Johnson's win was
the only first-round match to be completed. The following three
singles matches were postponed and there is more rain forecast for
Tuesday.
WTA Aegon Classic
American Madison Keys made an impressive first-round start, beating
Timea Babos of Hungary 7-6 (3), 6-4 at the WTA Aegon Classic in
Birmingham, Great Britain.
The 21-year-old Keys, seeded seventh, took seven successive points
in the tie-breaker after being down 0-3.
"I think I was rushing too much to get the first set over in those
moments when I played badly," Keys said. "But I have become better
at figuring stuff out after this clay court season."
Britain's Heather Watson beat Camila Giorgi of Italy 6-4, 7-5 to
advance to the second round, joining Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, who
defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 7-6 (2), 6-1.
