[June 16, 2016]    June 15 (The Sports Xchange) - Florida Marlins right fielder Ichiro Suzuki doubled to right field off San Diego Padres closer Fernando Rodney with two outs in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego for his 4,257th professional hit in Japan and the United States.

The total is one more than the major league record held by Pete Rose. The 42-year-old Suzuki has 2,979 hits in the major leagues after getting 1,278 in his nine-season career in Japan.

On the same day shortstop Jose Reyes was reinstated from the restricted list, the Colorado Rockies designated their highest-paid player for assignment.

Reyes, who has two years and $22 million remaining on his contract after this season, is eligible to be traded or released over the next 10 days. Reyes can also choose to accept a demotion to the minor leagues, which is unlikely.

Reyes was arrested Oct. 31 at Four Seasons Maui and the hotel security guard that phoned 911 reported scratches to the legs and neck area of Reyes' wife.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda remains on track to make his next scheduled start Sunday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Maesa was forced out of Tuesday's game after taking a line drive off his lower right leg in the sixth inning.

"Swelling down, weight-bearing, all that stuff," Roberts said. "We're encouraged about him making his next start."

Colorado Rockies left fielder Gerardo Parra underwent an MRI after spraining his left ankle Tuesday night.

Manager Walt Weiss said Parra is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list.
