[June 21, 2016]  ATLANTA  - Harry G. Sherman, 92, of Atlanta, passed away today, Tuesday, June 14,2016, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield at 12:30 a.m.

Visitation: Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home

Service: Friday, June 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary

Harry G. Sherman, 92, of Atlanta, passed away today, Tuesday, June 14,2016, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield at 12:30 a.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Sherman will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Mr. Maurice Stribling will officiate.

Visitation for Harry will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will follow the visitation.

Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery at a later date. Cremation Rites to be accorded.

Harry George Sherman was born March 19, 1924, in Bloomington, the son of Peter and Mae Jones Sherman. He married Christina Leslie in Bloomington on July 3, 1949. She preceded him in death in 2010.

 

Funeral Director

Harry is survived by their children: Sally (Randy) Geddert, Mark Sherman, and John (Karen) Sherman, all of Atlanta; seven grandchildren: Leslie (Rob) Johnson, Marshall (Shannon Fritcher) Geddert, Elisha (Dustin) Harksen, Ryne (Georgena) Sherman, Jordan Sherman, Brent Sherman, and Chelsea Sherman; and five great-grandchildren: Randi Lynn Ragland, Maddux and Mylah Harksen, and Max and Augustina Sherman.

Harry was preceded in death by one brother: Ray Sherman.

Harry served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a General Contractor. He was a member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge #165, Atlanta Rotary Club, Atlanta American Legion Post #341, Atlanta VFW, and the Atlanta Christian Church. Harry was a founding member of the Atlanta Bowl and owned and operated Sherman's Curiosity Shop for 30 years. He was a generous supporter of the town of Atlanta, serving on the City Council as Alderman and as Mayor Pro Temp, and the Atlanta Fire Department, in addition to volunteering and financially supporting the annual fireworks display.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Fire Department or the Atlanta Christian Church.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
