The season will begin Oct. 12 with four games, including the
unveiling of Rogers Place in Edmonton when the Oilers host the
rival Calgary Flames in the team's new arena. The defending
Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins open at home against
the Washington Capitals on Oct. 13.

Four-time All-Star Vincent Lecavalier announced his retirement
to officially end a 17-year career.
Lecavalier, 36, spent the first 14 years of his career with the
Tampa Bay Lightning. He played two-plus seasons with the
Philadelphia Flyers before finishing it off with the Los Angeles
Kings.

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan had successful hip
surgery in New York.
Callahan won't be able to return to the ice for about five
months, which means he won't compete for Team USA in the
upcoming World Cup of Hockey.

The Winnipeg Jets retained goaltender Michael Hutchinson by
agreeing to terms on a two-year, $2.3 million contract.
Hutchinson, 26, was a restricted free agent after going 9-15-3
with a 2.84 goals-against average and .907 save percentage last
season.
