June 28 (The Sports Xchange) -
New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that
pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz both have bone spurs in
their pitching elbows.
Syndergaard vehemently denied he had a bone spur after being shelled
during Monday's loss to the Washington Nationals.
Alderson said Syndergaard's bone spur is "very small" and that he
should be able to continue pitching. The injury is being treated
with anti-inflammatory medicine.
Matz will need to have his bone spur surgically removed but Alderson
said the Mets are hoping it can wait after the season.

San Diego will place center fielder Jon Jay on the disabled list
with a fractured right arm and recall left fielder Alex Dickerson
from Triple-A El Paso.
Jay was struck on the right forearm by a fastball from Washington
left-hander Gio Gonzalez on June 19.
Initial X-rays came back negative and Jay and the team thought his
arm was just bruised, and he has traveled with the team. Further
tests on Monday revealed the fracture. He is expected to be out for
at least six weeks.

The St. Louis Cardinals activated backup catcher Brayan Pena from
the disabled list and designated catcher Eric Fryer for assignment.
Pena has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on his left knee in
early April and missed the first 75 games of the season. He batted
.192 during a 14-game injury rehab stint.
Pena, 34, has a .260 career batting average with 23 homers over 11
previous major-league season. Fryer, 30, batted .368 with five RBIs
in 38 at-bats for the Cardinals. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
