College's Tryee Overton earns All-American status at National Tournament

Five members of the Lincoln College wrestling team finished up
their 2015-16 season at the NJCAA National Tournament in Council Bluffs,
IA this past weekend with 165-pounder Tyree Overton, a freshman from
Rock Island High School, taking 8th place and earning All-American
status for the Lynx.

Other Lincoln College wrestlers competing included Sophomore Ricky
Stringfellow (Peoria High) at 133 pounds, Freshman Jeff Fresch
(Roseville HS - Michigan) at 157 pounds, Freshman Jimiqui Daves (Glenbard
North HS) at 174 pounds, and Freshman Logan Hagerbaumer (Quincy Sr.
HS) at 184 pounds.
Overton came into the National Tournament with an overall record of
24-12. He defeated Sean Taborskey of Barton College in his first
match of the tournament by major decision 16-3. In his next match,
Overton took down John Nakhlel of Rowan College (Gloucester) by fall
at the 4:02 mark. Dajour Reece of North Idaho, the eventual National
Champion, defeated Overton by a 7-3 decision in the 3rd match of the
of the tournament sending him to the consolation bracket where
Overton defeated Davon Jackson of Muskegon College by technical foul
21-4 at the 4:29 mark. Sam Colebert of Mercyhurst College defeated
Overton by fall at the 1:42 mark sending him into the 7th/8th place
match. In his final match, Overton took on Sadarris Patterson of
Ellsworth College in a back-and-forth match ending in a 14-13
decision in favor of Patterson giving Overton an overall 8th place
finish. Overton joins 57 other Lynx wrestlers as NJCAA
All-Americans.

Fresch, who entered the National Tournament with a record of 10-10,
lost a tough first round matchup with North Iowa Area's Quincy
Kalkbrenner by fall at 4:54 sending him to the consolation bracket
where he defeated Zachary Pitts of Neosho College by major decision
11-2. Fresch's tournament ended in his next match as he was defeated
by major decision 11-3 by Preston Stephenson of Iowa Lakes.
Stringfellow (10-4), Davis (13-10), and Hagerbaumer (14-7) were all
0-2 in the tournament.
