Navarro, 29, was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Feb.
25. He refused an outright assignment to the minors Sunday, choosing
to become a free agent prior to signing with Seattle. The Angels
traded Navarro to Baltimore on Jan. 26. Navarro split last season
between the Angels and Triple-A Salt Lake. In 54 major league games
with the Angeles, he batted .253 with five RBIs while appearing
defensively at first base, left field and right field. Navarro hit
.329 with two home runs in 72 games in Triple-A.

MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Wong, Kolten
2B Kolten Wong and the Cardinals agreed on a five-year contract
Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal will pay Wong $25.5
million, according to ESPN. The deal also has a $12.5 million team
option for 2021 and does not include any no-trade protection.
"My whole plan was I wanted to be part of this team. I wanted to get
engulfed with the community and just be part of St. Louis," Wong
said Wednesday at spring training in Jupiter, Fla. "Now, with this
deal, I get to be part of the community."
Wong, 25, batted .262 with 11 home runs, 61 RBIs and 15 stolen bases
last season.

MLB Note - New York Yankees Chapman, Aroldis
LHP Aroldis Chapman apologized Wednesday for using a gun and
insisted he never hurt his girlfriend in an incident that resulted
in a 30-day suspension that he has accepted from Major League
Baseball under its new domestic violence policy.
His girlfriend, Cristina Barnea, 22, told police he pushed and
choked her on Oct. 30 at his home in Davie, Fla. Chapman said there
was an argument and that he was pushed down by Barnea's brother.
Then he got a handgun and fired eight shots into a wall and window
while locked in his garage. Prosecutors declined to file charges,
citing conflicting accounts.

MLB Note - Cleveland Indians Brantley, Michael
OF Michael Brantley might be back from offseason shoulder surgery a
lot quicker than late April or early May. He's already doing just
about everything besides hitting in the cage and that's next on his
rehab schedule.
"He's kind of flown through this," manager Terry Francona said
Wednesday. "To his credit, he spent a ton of time in Cleveland and
instead of going home (to Florida), he came out here. So he's given
himself every chance possible to get better as quickly as possible,
which we appreciate. He really understands how much we rely on him.
He's going terrific. It's really encouraging."

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Rollins, Jimmy
SS Jimmy Rollins, in the White Sox's camp on a minor league deal,
likely will make the Opening Day roster, manager Robin Ventura said.
[to top of second column] |
Rollins would make $2 million if he is on the major league roster.
The starting job at shortstop, however, is still up for grabs, and
Rollins would have to beat out Tyler Saladino or not mind platooning
at the position.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Bautista, Jose
RF Jose Bautista will not make his first appearance in a spring
training game for several more days -- by design. "I talked to him
and with the longer season (in which the Blue Jays played in
postseason), he's got a pretty rigid program that he follows in the
off-season and he thought it would be best to start a little slower
so he keeps his routine," manager John Gibbons said.
Bautista has put together a plan with the team's new
high-performance department, a team of specialists in sports
medicine and science.

MLB Note - Houston Astros Gregerson, Luke
RHP Luke Gregerson, who had 31 saves last season, threw off a mound
Wednesday for the first time since he arrived at camp. He is dealing
with a minor left oblique strain. "Everything felt good," Gregerson
said. "Ball coming out nice, moving well and move forward from
there."
He expects to throw another bullpen, then batting practice. "Then
the next thing you know, maybe week or so, be in a game," he said.
Gregerson did not throw at maximum velocity Wednesday, but he is
expected to be ready for Opening Day.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Brown, Domonic
OF Domonic Brown, who signed a minor league deal last week with the
Blue Jays, blamed himself for his problems with the Phillies. He was
an All-Star in 2013 but played in Triple-A for half of 2015. The
Phillies gave him his outright release in October and he opted for
free agency.
"I put everything on myself," Brown said before going 1-for-3 with
one RBI in a 4-4 tie between the Phillies and Blue Jays on
Wednesday. "Accountability for me has always been big. I think
that's the reason I didn't have any bad times with the fans. It was
all on me."
He is competing for the role of fourth outfielder with Toronto. He
has an opt-out clause in his contract and does not seem keen about
accepting a demotion to Triple-A.
