“Calling all artists” varied guest talent offers “wow” to Lincoln
Show open March weekends and by appointment

[March 14, 2016]   LINCOLN - Mitch Douglas wanted to create something special for local artists who don’t have access to an art gallery. For the second year, he has produced the show “Calling All Artists” at the Lincoln Art Institute in downtown Lincoln. Normally the monthly art opening has works by members of Logan County Arts, but once a year Douglas puts out the call for everyone to bring something to the gallery.

This year the range of pieces went from sculpture made of steel washers - to photographs - to traditional paint on canvas. “This is the show for people who don’t have access to a gallery or who may be afraid to show their works, maybe afraid of being subject to judging. We offer a relaxed atmosphere where every artist’s work can be displayed,” said Douglas.

When asked about the quality of the works this year, Mitch Douglas said “it goes from good to wow! This show is good for the community and allows artists of all ages to meet and talk.”
A large crowd agreed with Mitch as they wandered the gallery and discussed the art.

Artist Bev Noble said she appreciated the show because “I get a chance to display my art in a beautiful gallery and get to see what other artists are doing. There is no other venue like the Lincoln Art Institute that is available to me.”

Springfield artist Stan Squires, a frequent visitor to the Lincoln Art Fair said, “I really enjoy coming to Lincoln to show my art. Lincoln has always been good to me. Calling All Artists is another chance for me to display my art in Lincoln.”

Decatur artist Dianne Spaniol brought her photographs for the second year to “Calling All Artists.” She likes to combine several photographs into one piece to capture all aspects of the subject. Her works this year showcased Pearl Harbor and Ground Zero in Manhattan. Both photographic essays pay tribute to the heroes who gave their lives.

The beautiful Lincoln Art Institute was created by artist in residence Moses Pinkerton.

Music for the evening was provided by Maureen Douglas and Tanya Conrady playing Celtic harps. Music for the second half of the evening was provided by three graduates of the Lincoln College Jazz Baccalaureate program, Jeff Arbisi, Derrick Spiker and Allen Mendez.

Treats for the night were provided by Heather Cosby from Flossie & Delzena’s.
