NHL roundup: Predators continue to climb with win

 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Continuing their climb up the Central Division ladder, the Nashville Predators returned home from a successful road trip with another win Thursday night.

Goals by Ryan Ellis and Ryan Johansen in a 1:41 stretch of the second period snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Nashville a 4-2 decision over the New York Islanders at sold-out Bridgestone Arena.

Austin Watson and James Neal also scored for the Predators.

Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock scored for the Islanders.

Kings 4, Rangers 3 (OT)

LOS ANGELES -- Anze Kopitar scored the game-winning goal by tipping in a rocket by Jake Muzzin in overtime, rallying Los Angeles over the New York Rangers at Staples Center.

Kopitar scored two goals, and Kyle Clifford and Dustin Brown scored one each for the Kings, who got 23 saves from Jonathan Quick.

Kevin Hayes, Dan Boyle and J.T. Miller also scored for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 33 shots for the Rangers, who have dropped three of their last four contests.

Coyotes 3, Sharks 1

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Shane Doan took a shot from the corner that banked in off San Jose goalie Martin Jones with 1:31 remaining to break a tie and lead Arizona to a win at Gila River Arena.

Doan has 25 goals this season, and 18 of them have come at home.

Michael Stone and Antoine Vermette also scored for the Coyotes, while Mike Smith made 27 saves.

Tomas Hertl scored for the Sharks, who got 19 saves from Jones.

Penguins 4, Hurricanes 2

PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby scored twice for his 30th and 31st of the season, Phil Kessel added a goal and an assist and goaltender Matthew Murray withstood giving up two early goals as Pittsburgh rallied to beat Carolina.

Carl Hagelin assisted on three goals, including Nick Bonino's fifth of the season for the Penguins.

Phillip Di Guiseppe and Riley Nash scored for the Hurricanes.

Red Wings 3, Blue Jackets 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Luke Glendening, Henrik Zetterberg and Darren Helm scored goals for Detroit while Jimmy Howard finished with 27 saves in a win in Columbus.

The victory lifted Detroit ahead of Philadelphia back into eighth place by one point. However, the Flyers have two games in hand.

The Blue Jackets lone goal was scored by Alexander Wennberg on a power play with 1:00 remaining.

Devils 7, Wild 4

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey erupted for their most goals this season, knocking off Minnesota at the Prudential Center.

The Devils got two goals apiece from Adam Henrique, Devante Smith-Pelly and Mike Sislo, the first two goals of his career. Reid Boucher also scored and Tyler Kennedy contributed three assists.

Justin Fontaine, Nino Niederreiter, Mikko Koivu and Jared Spurgeon scored for the Wild.

Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 1

TORONTO -- Jussi Jokinen scored the game's first two goals, both on pucks deflected off the opposition, and Florida posted a win over Toronto at Air Canada Centre.

Jaromir Jagr and Teddy Purcell added empty-netters, while Roberto Luongo made 32 saves for the Panthers.

Morgan Rielly scored for the Maple Leafs, who had their two game win streak snapped in the loss. Jonathan Bernier stopped 28 shots for Toronto.

Stars 4, Lightning 3

DALLAS --- Jamie Benn had two goals, Cody Eakin three assists and Kari Lehtonen stopped 17 of 20 shots for Dallas Stars in a win against Tampa Bay at American Airlines Center.

Jason Spezza and Stephen Johns also scored for the Stars, who swept the two-game season series with the Lightning.

Steven Stamkos had two goals for the Lightning, who got a goal and an assist from Nikita Kucherov and two assists from Alex Killorn.
