[March 19, 2016]    D Stephen Johns signed a two-year contract extension Friday (March 18). Johns, 23, was set to become a restricted free agent at the conclusion of this season.

Corey Crawford (upper body) did not play in Friday's game.

RW Patrick Kane scored a goal and an assist in a win Friday and leads the league with 92 points. He said the Blackhawks' recent woes might be a blessing in disguise. "You can look at maybe some positives from a negative situation," Kane said. "Looking at a four-game slide there, maybe it's better it happens now rather than later in the season and playoffs and then you're done. We can learn from this and you know, if we lose one or two down the road here we can look back on this situation as a team and as a group and realize how we got ourselves out of it. "It's nice to get a win and try to build off that and put a little run together here."

LW Andrew Ladd stung his former teammates with a third-period goal as the Blackhawks posted a 4-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. Ladd, took a pass from Chicago captain Jonathan Toews and slipped in his 20th goal of the season at 3:06 of the third period as the Blackhawks built a 3-0 lead. "It was awesome," Ladd said, describing his return to the place he called home for the better part of five seasons. "I always appreciated the fans and the people of Winnipeg when I was here. I appreciated the ovations and can't say enough about the city."

C Jonathan Toews registered more than 16 minutes of ice time on Friday in a 4-0 win over Winnipeg and was a force both deep in his own end and in Jets territory. The talented center picked up an assist on a slick pass through a pair of Jet defenders to left winger Andrew Ladd, and now has four goals and six helpers in his last 13 games as the Blackhawks push to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

C Artem Anisimov has scored just one goal in his last 16 games and has chipped in five assists in that time. He's also been stuck on 19 goals for the last five games. Anisimov was a big piece in the trade that sent forward Brandon Saad to the Columbus Blue Jackets last June, and he's been a fixture on a line with right winger Patrick Kane and left winger Artemi Panarin. The line is still one of the very best in hockey but had been inconsistent during Chicago's recent struggles, prior to Friday's 4-0 triumph over Winnipeg.
