Obituary
Eileen Kohl , 99, of Springfield, passed away at
10:28 p.m. on April 29, 2016 at Lewis Memorial
Christian Village of Springfield.
Eileen was born on February 9, 1917 in rural Emden;
the daughter of Frederick and Emma Struebing Cross.
She married Hubert Lloyd Kohl on June 5, 1938; he
preceded her in death on August 3, 1992.
Eileen lived as a young child in the Hartsburg area.
Her family moved to New Holland in 1929. She
graduated from New Holland High School in 1934 and
Illinois State Normal University in 1936. She taught
at Briggs School, a one-room schoolhouse, in rural
New Holland.
Following her marriage, she and Hubert farmed in
rural New Holland. They raised three children. After
the death of her husband, she moved to Lincoln in
1995 and then to Springfield in 2012.
She was a former member and treasurer of Illinois
State Mothers of America, Country Home Bureau,
member of Zion Lutheran Church of New Holland,
Concordia Society and L.W.M.L., life member of
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where
she was a former board member and secretary. |
Eileen is survived by her three children: Perry
(Emily) Kohl of Lincoln, Barry Kohl of Nauvoo, and
Sally (Ron) Correll of Springfield; one sister:
Donna Cross Conklen of Springfield, four
grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five
great-great grandchildren, two nieces. She was
preceded in death by her parents.
Services for Eileen will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May
4, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland, with
Rev. Charles Olander officiating. Visitation will be
from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday May 3, 2016 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Burial at Richmond Grove cemetery will follow the
service. Memorials may be given in Eileen’s name to
Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland.
