LINCOLN
- This Friday night, take mom and the family out for an evening of
fun and maybe learn something new. The Logan County Railsplitting
Association will host its annual Civil War Ball at the American
Legion in Lincoln from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This is the eleventh year for the ball, which is normally held in
conjunction with the National Railsplitting Festival in September.
However, this year, according the Railsplitting member Darlene
Begolka, the Association decided that the ball could be held as a
stand-alone event.
Begolka said that in discussing the ball, the group realized that
there were several local folk who had said they would have liked to
come, but they were busy with preparations for the weekend-long
event and didn't feel they should take the time out for a ball.
Begolka noted that even though there are several things going on
this weekend, she is hopeful that the Friday night dance will bring
in a larger crowd than in past years.
The dance is a fun time for everyone. Whether you come alone "stag"
or as a couple or a family, the dances of the evening are designed
to join groups together for a fun time.
This year the dance will once again be called by the Springfield
International Folk Dancers. The evening will include their special
brand of comedy coupled with a variety of civil war era dances.
Guests can come as they are, or if they feel so inclined may dress
in Civil War era costumes to add to the fun.

In addition to the dancing, there will be a silent auction this year, as well as
drawings for some great prizes.
The cost for the evening is $5 per person or $7.50 for couples and a special
price of only $10 for a family.
The National Railsplitting Festival will be held on September 17th and 18th. New
this year, the event will be held outside at the Postville Courthouse located on
Fifth Street in Lincoln. There will be no gate fee for the weekend, but
donations will be happily accepted.
