Participants gathered at Lincoln Christian Church at 10a.m.
Saturday, April 30th. Linda Nelson, director of Living Alternatives
said, “The Walk For Life is so important to the Center because it
raises a fourth of the year’s income. “ She clarified that all the
money raised from the Walk is used for operating expenses for the
Pregnancy Resource Center.
This year’s participants were able to do more than just walk. A
variety of activities at the event provided an opportunity for young
and old alike to join in the fun: coloring contest, face painting,
silent auction, bake sale, door prizes, and volunteer awards.
Ben Vogel, the top money raiser, a committed volunteer for many
years, shared this illustration at the PRC Banquet in October 2015,
and it is still relevant today:
The ministry of the Pregnancy Resource Center could be visualized as
a three legged stool. The three legs are Money, Volunteers, and
Clients. All three are intertwined and support each other.
- If we have no money, we cannot provide services to clients.
- If we have no volunteers we would not be able to serve the
clients.
- And if we had no clients there would be no need for money or
volunteers.
All three legs of the stool are important and essential to
the mission of the Pregnancy Resource Center.
Several times during the morning walk, someone stepped to the
microphone to thank the volunteers for the countless hours they
spend helping at the Center.
Volunteers are able to help with office work, sorting donations,
cleaning, painting, or working on other projects that need to be
done for the success of day-to-day operations.
Nelson said, “During the summer we are desperate for someone to
mow our grass.”

There is a volunteer job for just about
everyone. Kim King completed an Internship for Lincoln Christian
University almost 10 years ago. Her passion for what the Center
does for the community keeps her there, volunteering as she is
able.
Volunteering does not need to be a big commitment; the Center
would appreciate help on an hourly, weekly, or monthly basis.
All services at the Pregnancy Resource Center, since 1985, are
offered at no charge to the client.
Nelson’s desire is that events like the Walk For Life will raise
community awareness so that more families in crisis will come to
the Center for help. “Every child’s life is important. Living
Alternatives wants to help mothers and fathers with parenting
skills, prenatal care, and ongoing mentoring. “
On the program for the day that was handed out it said:
“Living Alternatives is committed to saving the lives of unborn
children by promoting life-affirming options and providing
practical assistance, while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ
in word and deed, and to minister restoration to those who have
been wounded by the trauma of abortion.”
