Yankees 10, Royals 7
Brett Gardner delivered the tiebreaking double with one out in the
bottom of the eighth inning as the New York Yankees overcame three
home runs by Kansas City Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain in their
10-7 victory.
Ben Gamel began the winning rally when he reached on an error by
shortstop Alcides Escobar, who could not handle the hop on the
ground ball. Two pitches later, Gardner lined a 1-0 pitch from
Kelvin Herrera (0-1) to center field and Escobar cut off the relay
throw as Gamel slid in feet first while his helmet came off.
The Yankees (13-18) won for the fourth time in five games and needed
Gardner's hit because Masahiro Tanaka and Andrew Miller (2-0) could
not keep Cain in the ballpark.
Phillies 3, Braves 2
Left-hander Adam Morgan allowed one run over seven innings and won
for the first time in his hometown as the Philadelphia Phillies beat
the Atlanta Braves 3-2 at Turner Field for their third straight
victory.
Morgan, who grew up in the northwest Atlanta suburb of Marietta,
allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four. Morgan (1-0) had
lost his three previous starts against the Braves.
Red Sox 13, A's 5
Travis Shaw belted a three-run home run and had five RBIs to pace
another offensive barrage for the Boston Red Sox in a 13-5 blowout
of the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday at Fenway Park.
Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer and Mookie Betts added a solo
blast for the Red Sox (20-13). Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts,
Chris Young and Jackie Bradley Jr. all had an RBI while contributing
to the team's 16-hit attack. Bradley extended his career-best
hitting streak to 16 games.
Tigers 5, Nationals 4
Victor Martinez had four hits and drove in a run and Nick
Castellanos had a two-run homer and reached base three times as
Detroit beat Washington to even the three-game interleague series.
The Tigers snapped a seven-game losing streak while Washington lost
for the fifth time in six outings. The win overshadowed a two-homer
game for Washington's Ryan Zimmerman, whose solo shot with two outs
in the seventh cut the margin to 5-4 off reliever Drew VerHagen.
Brewers 10, Marlins 2
Leadoff man Jonathan Villar produced two hits, two steals, two runs
scored and two RBIs to lead Milwaukee to a victory over Miami.
Aaron Hill also had a big game for Milwaukee, going 3-for-4 with two
RBIs, and Ryan Braun added two hits and two RBIs.
The Brewers beat Marlins left-hander Adam Conley (2-2), who held
Milwaukee hitless for 7 2/3 innings in his previous start April 29
at Miller Park.
Orioles 5, Twins 3
Adam Jones' two-run single in the top of the ninth inning lifted
Baltimore to a win over Minnesota at Target Field.
Baltimore have won three straight and sit tied atop the American
League East with the Boston Red Sox.
Minnesota have lost six straight games and 10 of their past 11
overall.
Indians 4, Astros 0
Right-hander Trevor Bauer continued his mastery of Houston with
seven shutout innings as Cleveland squared the three-game series
with a shuout win at Minute Maid Park.
Bauer (3-0) improved to 4-0 with a 0.67 ERA in four career outings
against the Astros by utilizing a dazzling array of pitches. From
his fastball through his curve and changeup, Bauer worked with haste
and audacity, allowing three hits and three walks with seven
strikeouts.
Cubs 8, Padres 7
Ben Zobrist went 4-for-4 and scored three times, and Jon Lester
picked up his third win in four starts as Chicago held on for a
victory over San Diego in the belated series opener.
The victory was eighth straight for the Cubs, who ran their
major-league-best record to 25-6. The Padres took their third
consecutive loss.

Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 1
A dominant start by Rubby De La Rosa enabled Arizona to beat
Colorado and add to the Rockies' misery at home.
The victory was the fifth straight for the Diamondbacks, who will
try to sweep the three-game series on Wednesday.
The Rockies lost for the fourth time in five games and fell to 4-10
at home as they continue to search for success at Coors Field.
Colorado struggled there last season, finishing with a 36-45 home
record.
Blue Jays 4, Giants 0
Left-hander J.A. Happ scattered six hits over 8 2/3 innings to
remain unbeaten in 2016 as Toronto made it two straight over San
Francisco in interleague play.
Troy Tulowitzki had a hand in all four Toronto runs. He hit a solo
home run, added an RBI double, after which he scored on a Russell
Martin single, and lofted a sacrifice fly.
Rangers 13, White Sox 11
Ryan Rua launched a three-run blast to center field in the bottom of
the eighth to give Texas an improbable win over Chicago.
The Rangers scored seven runs in eighth and sent 10 batters to the
plate, including Ian Desmond, who hit a two-run triple prior to
Rua's homer.
The White Sox led 10-5 after four innings when they scored nine runs
over two innings following an extended rain delay.
Mariners 6, Rays 4
Home runs from Franklin Gutierrez and Lee Dae-ho allowed Seattle to
open up big early leads, and the Mariners hung on for a win over
Tampa Bay.
Gutierrez gave Seattle a 2-0 lead before the Mariners recorded an
out in the first inning, then Lee opened up a 6-2 advantage with a
three-run shot in the fourth. Tampa Bay's Steve Pearce hit a pair of
solo homers, then Steven Souza added a seventh-inning homer to cut
the gap to 6-4.
Cardinals 8, Angels 1
Matt Carpenter hit two home runs, and Matt Holliday and Randall
Grichuk each hit one as St. Louis pounded already-reeling Los
Angeles at Angel Stadium.
Angels starting shortstop Andrelton Simmons had surgery to repair a
torn ligament in his left thumb earlier in the day, just the latest
in a string of injuries to cripple the club.
Dodgers 3, Mets 2
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the game tied at 2-2,
Trayce Thompson pinch-hit a walk-off home run off Hansel Robles to
help Los Angeles to a win against New York at Dodger Stadium.
It was the Dodgers' first walk-off, pinch-hit home run since Sept.
10, 2013. Kenley Jansen (1-0) earned the win with one inning of
scoreless relief. Robles (0-2) took the loss
Reds-Pirates postponed
Cncinnati's patchwork rotation and overworked bullpen, which owned a
6.43 ERA through 33 games, got a breather when Tuesday's game was
postponed due to rain after a 55-minute delay.
