Dodgers 5, Mets 0
Clayton Kershaw spun a complete-game shutout and Yasmani Grandal
provided the Los Angeles Dodgers with the big hit in a 5-0 victory
against the New York Mets on Thursday.
Kershaw (4-1) allowed three hits, striking out 13. It was his fifth
straight game with 10 or more strikeouts, establishing a Dodgers
record. David Wright's first-inning walk was only the fourth free
pass Kershaw has allowed all season and his first in four games.
Red Sox 11, Astros 1
David Price struck out 12 in 6 2/3 innings, helping the hot-hitting
Boston Red Sox to their fifth straight win -- an 11-1 rout of the
Houston Astros.
Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer off struggling Houston ace
Dallas Keuchel (2-5) in the first inning and added an RBI single and
Mookie Betts belted a three-run shot in the sixth as Keuchel was
tagged for eight runs.
The Red Sox have 56 runs on 69 hits during their winning streak,
including 51 and 62 hits in four home games this week. They have
reached double figures in runs in each of the four games, the first
time since 2007 that has happened for Boston.
Yankees 7, Royals 3
Chase Headley homered for the first time in eight months as New York
defeated Kansas City.
Headley had not homered since his first at-bat against Toronto
right-hander Marco Estrada on Sept. 12 when he stepped in with two
outs and Carlos Beltran on first in the second inning. He ended a
drought of 170 at-bats when he sent a 3-1 fastball into the left
field seats for a two-run homer.
Orioles 7, Tigers 5
Jonathan Schoop lined a two-run triple to cap a five-run seventh
inning and Baltimore rallied from a five-run deficit for their fifth
consecutive victory.
Chris Davis (RBI double) and Schoop (RBI infield single) cut the
lead to 5-2 in the sixth as Detroit starter Mike Pelfrey began to
struggle and was pulled. Phillies 7, Braves 4 (10 innings)
Cameron Rupp delivered a bases-loaded double with two outs in the
10th inning to propel Philadelphia past Atlanta.
[to top of second column] |
Rupp had been hitless in his previous eight at-bats and was 0-for-4
with two strikeouts before coming to the plate against Atlanta
reliever Ian Krol in the 10th. Rupp split the gap in left field with
his eighth double to clear the bases.
Padres 3, Brewers 0
Melvin Upton Jr. had three hits, including his fourth home run of
the season, while James Shields worked seven shutout innings as San
Diego extended its winning streak to three games.
Shields (2-5) allowed seven hits and a walk over seven innings.
Milwaukee put the leadoff batter aboard in four innings, but went
0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
Giants 4, Diamondbacks 2
Joe Panik hit a two-run home run, and Javier Lopez induced a
bases-loaded groundout to end the game as San Francisco finally beat
nemesis Zack Greinke in a victory over Arizona.
Panik's homer after a Span single in the fifth inning gave the
Giants a 4-1 lead, and Lopez preserved their first victory over
Greinke in 12 meetings. Greinke had been 8-0 with a 2.12 ERA against
San Francisco, all the victories since 2014.
Cardinals 12, Angels 10
St. Louis collected 18 hits, including at least one from every
member of the batting order, in a slugfest win over Los Angeles.
Matt Holliday had four hits, including two home runs. Matt Carpenter
had two hits, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning that
gave the Cardinals the lead for good. (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
