[May 16, 2016]  ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Danny Valencia hit three home runs -- the last one coming with two outs in the ninth to provide the tying and go-ahead runs -- as the Oakland A's rallied to take a 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday at Tropicana Field.

Oakland had been 0-20 this season when trailing after eight innings. Valencia had no home runs entering the weekend series but had five in the two A's wins on Friday and Sunday.

Brandon Guyer drove in five runs, including a pair of home runs, for the Rays.

The Rays led 6-5 entering the ninth and got the first two out in the top of the ninth. Billy Burns hit a two-out double to put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth. Valencia's final homer came on the first pitch from Steven Geltz (0-2), Tampa Bay's fifth pitcher.

Rangers 7, Blue Jays 6

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ian Desmond's three-run homer sparked a four-run seventh inning for Texas in a win over Toronto that was marred by a benches-clearing brawl in the eighth inning.

The Rangers trailed 6-3 going into the seventh before scoring four times to take the lead, with Desmond's homer off Jesse Chavez (0-1) capping the scoring.

The brawl came in the next inning after Jose Bautista was hit by a Matt Bush pitch. Bautista slid late into second base on a Justin Smoak grounder and went into Texas second baseman Rougned Odor. Odor then punched Bautista in the face and both benches cleared. A double play was called for Bautista's illegal slide, and Bautista, Odor, Toronto third baseman Josh Donaldson and Texas bench coach Steve Buechele were ejected following the scrum.

Yankees 7, White Sox 5

NEW YORK -- Pinch hitter Chase Headley had a long tiebreaking double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as New York blew three one-run leads before pulling out a victory over Chicago.

Headley's ninth hit in his last 25 at-bats gave the Yankees their seventh win in 10 games on a day when Carlos Beltran became the fourth switch hitter to reach 400 home runs.

Beltran's milestone occurred with two outs in the sixth when he drove a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall from Zach Duke. He joined Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray along with former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones when he drove a 2-2 pitch from left-hander Zach Duke over the left field fence.

Twins 5, Indians 1

CLEVELAND -- Tyler Duffey pitched seven scoreless innings and Jorge Polanco hit his first major league home run as Minnesota beat Cleveland.

The Twins took two of three games in the weekend series after halting their eight-game losing streak with a win on Saturday.

In seven innings Duffey (1-2) threw 110 pitches and gave up six hits, all singles. He struck out six and walked one.

Marlins 5, Nationals 1

WASHINGTON -- Right-hander Jose Fernandez allowed just one run in seven innings and drove in two runs and batterymate J.T. Realmuto had three hits as Miami beat Washington, garnering a split of the four-game series on a windy day with some shaky fielding.

In just his second start ever at Nationals Park, Fernandez (5-2) improved to 5-0 in his career against the Nationals as he gave up just four hits with 11 strikeouts on a season-high 117 pitches.

Washington's Ryan Zimmerman was credited with an inside- the-park homer in the fourth. Right fielder Giancarlo Stanton and center fielder Marcell Ozuna got their feet tangled on the warning track in right-center as Zimmerman circled the bases. The outfielders laid on the ground for a few moments but stayed in the game.

Brewers 3, Padres 2

MILWAUKEE -- Chris Carter snapped out of a week-long slump with three hits and Zach Davies worked into the seventh as Milwaukee knocked off San Diego.

Carter was 0-for-22 coming into the game and struck out in the first inning against Padres right-hander Cesar Vargas. But his one-out home run in the third put Milwaukee on the board and his RBI double off Kevin Quackenbush (1-2) in the seventh sent Jonathan Lucroy home and broke a 2-2 tie.

Lucroy finished with two hits, including his fifth home run of the season as the Brewers collected 11 hits.

Pirates 2, Cubs 1

CHICAGO -- Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run as the Pirates held on to salvage the finale of a three-game series.

Kang drove in Starling Marte in the seventh after Marte spoiled a no-hitter bid by Cubs starter Jon Lester with a one-out single in the seventh that ultimately sent Lester (4-2) to the loss.

Pirates starter Gerrit Cole (4-3) was the winner and was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the ninth. He allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked none while giving up no runs.

Pittsburgh reliever Mark Melancon gave up one run in the ninth as Anthony Rizzo drove home Dexter Fowler with a one-out sacrifice fly to right. But he got Ben Zobrist on a ground out to end the game and collect his 11th save.

Tigers 6, Orioles 5

BALTIMORE -- J.D Martinez and Miguel Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs off Baltimore reliever Darren O'Day in the eighth inning as the Tigers avoided a four-game sweep by the Orioles.

Detroit won for just the second time in 13 games and snapped Baltimore's seven-game winning streak.

Warwick Saupold (1-0), who was called up Friday from Triple-A Toledo, picked up the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Francisco Rodriguez notched his ninth save.

Ian Kinsler went 2-for-4, including his seventh homer of the season for Detroit.

Red Sox 10, Astros 9

BOSTON -- Ryan Hanigan had three hits and drove in four runs and Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run home run to lead Boston's victory.

[to top of second column]

Boston's Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his career-high and major-league-leading hitting streak to 21 games with a single in the fifth. Bogaerts also pushed his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Red Sox have now hit at least one home run in 16 straight games, their longest streak since a 19-game stretch from July 4-25, 1996.

Luis Valbuena belted a three-run home run and had five RBIs and Carlos Correa hit a solo home run for Houston.

Reds 9, Phillies 4

PHILADELPHIA -- Eugenio Suarez's three-run home run capped a three-hit day to help the Reds salvage the final game of a three-game series.

Dan Strailey (2-1) threw five innings of shutout ball for the win, giving up six hits and three walks while striking out six.

The loss was Philadelphia's first at home in its last seven games at Citizens Bank Park.

The Reds took a 2-0 lead in the second, then blew the game open with a five-run fourth.

Phillies starter Adam Morgan walked his counterpart Straily on four pitches with the bases loaded to force in one run. After a fielder's choice scored the second run of the inning, Suarez ended Morgan's day with a three-run blast to make it 7-0.

Angels 3, Mariners 0

SEATTLE -- Hector Santiago tossed eight scoreless innings as Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep of Seattle.

Santiago allowed two hits, the first one coming on a bunt single by Shawn O'Malley in the sixth, before fill-in closer Joe Smith came on in the ninth to retire the side for his fourth save of the season.

Kole Calhoun broke a scoreless tie with a fifth-inning RBI single, and teammate Daniel Nava gave Los Angeles some breathing room with a two-run single in the eighth.

Royals 4, Braves 2 (13)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kendrys Morales blasted a two-run homer to straightaway center with two out in the 13th inning as Kansas City outlasted Atlanta.

Morales' home run was off Jason Grilli. Eric O'Flaherty, who gave up a hit to Alcides Escobar to lead off the inning, took the loss. It was Escobar's fourth hit, equaling his career high. He also scored two runs and drove in another.

Wade Davis was trusted with a 2-0 lead in the ninth, but the Royals closer failed to hold it, blowing his first save in nine chances this season. Davis gave up RBI singles to Mallex Smith and Erick Aybar.

Giants 2, Diamondbacks 1

PHOENIX -- Brandon Crawford singled home the winning run in the ninth inning on the third of three consecutive singles and San Francisco completed a four-game sweep of Arizona, which has lost five consecutive games.

The Giants had one hit over the first eight innings but jumped on Arizona closer Brad Ziegler (1-2) with three straight first-pitch singles to open the ninth. Crawford's tiebreaking single allowed San Francisco to extend its winning streak to a season-high five games.

Brandon Drury had four hits for Arizona and gave the Diamondbacks a chance to tie with a one-out single in the ninth off Giants closer Santiago Casilla that sent pinch runner Nick Ahmed to third. But Casilla induced pinch hitter Rickie Weeks to hit into Arizona's fourth double play of the game to end it on a play in which Weeks was initially called safe before the call was overturned by review.

Rockies 4, Mets 3

DENVER -- Pinch hitter Ryan Raburn hit a two-run homer in the seventh Sunday that gave Colorado a victory over New York.

It was the sixth career pinch-hit homer and second this season for Raburn and enabled the Rockies to sweep the three-game series. The Rockies last swept a three-game series from the Mets on April 16-18, 2013.

Carlos Gonzalez broke an extended homerless drought when he drove Jacob deGrom's first pitch over the wall in center with two outs in the sixth. The homer was Gonzalez's first since April 16. He went 99 at-bats without hitting a home run and had not driven in a run since April 24.

Cardinals 5, Dodgers 2

LOS ANGELES -- St. Louis broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run seventh and went on to beat Los Angeles and avoid a three-game sweep.

With two on and two outs, pinch hitter Yadier Molina doubled off Joe Blanton -- the Dodgers' third reliever of the inning -- to knock in two.

Matt Carpenter was then intentionally walked, and Stephen Piscotty singled home Molina to make it 4-1.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager hit a pair of solo home runs for his first career multi-homer game. Seager tied the game at 1-1 with a blast off Cardinals starter Mike Leake in the third inning, and he drove a 2-0 fastball by Kevin Siegrist into the right field stands in the eighth to make the score 5-2.
