to Hold Free Seminar on Stroke

SPRINGFIELD – Memorial Medical Center will host a free seminar on
stroke prevention and treatment at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, in the
Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, 228 W. Miller Street,
Springfield.

The 90-minute program, “Advanced Stroke Care: Prevention and
Intervention,” will feature a brief presentation led by Dr. Tamer
Abdelhak, a neurologist with SIU HealthCare. Topics covered will
include types of stroke, advances in treatment and Memorial Medical
Center’s designation as a comprehensive stroke center from The Joint
Commission, the nation’s highest designation for stroke care.
The event will also include a panel discussion featuring stroke
surgeons and rehab physicians: Dr. Sajjad Mueed, neurologist, SIU
HealthCare; Dr. Devin Amin, neurosurgeon, SIU HealthCare; Dr. Robert
Burke, interventional radiologist, Clinical Radiologists; and Dr.
David Gelber, neurologist, Springfield Clinic. The panel will
discuss stroke prevention as well as the medical interventions and
rehab options for the best results.
Health screenings and light refreshments will be available for a
half-hour before and after the event from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and 7:30 to
8 p.m.

The event will be held in the M.G. Nelson Family Auditorium on the
first floor of the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation.
Free parking is available in the parking garage south of the MCLI at
Rutledge and Carpenter streets.
