Rangers 9, Astros 2
Cole Hamels completed what Colby Lewis and Cesar Ramos started
earlier this weekend, stifling Houston while leading Texas to a win
and a three-game series sweep.
Hamels (5-0) worked eight innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on
five hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts.
In what marked another substandard start for Astros left-hander
Dallas Keuchel (2-6), the Rangers posted five runs in the third
inning to provide Hamels with the cushion he needed.
Mets 3, Brewers 1
Noah Syndergaard struck out 11 and allowed an unearned run over
seven innings and Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a tie-breaking two-run
single in the fourth inning as the New York Mets completed a
three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 3-1 win on Sunday.
The sweep capped a 4-2 homestand for the Mets and gave them some
momentum heading into a three-game series at the first-place
Washington Nationals beginning Monday. The Brewers have lost seven
of 11, all by three runs or fewer.
Nationals 8, Marlins 2
Leadoff batter Ben Revere had three hits, two steals, two runs
scored and two RBIs, and Max Scherzer pitched eight strong innings
as Washington defeated Miami.
Revere, who started the day hitting just .148, went 3-for-5 and is
batting .182. He improved his batting average 59 points in two days.
Mariners 5, Reds 4
Leonys Martin had four hits and scored a run batting leadoff in
place of injured shortstop Ketel Marte to help Seattle rally for a
victory and complete the sweep of Cincinnati in the finale of a
three-game interleague series.
Mariners starter Wade Miley got roughed up in the first inning,
allowing three runs and three hits including a two-run double by
Brandon Phillips as the Reds went ahead 3-0. Miley also hit a
batter. Miley (5-2) was charged with four earned runs and eight hits
with a walk and six strikeouts in six innings.
Tigers 9, Rays 4
Cameron Maybin drove in three runs and Jordan Zimmerman notched his
sixth victory despite leaving with a right groin strain to lead
Detroit to a victory over Tampa Bay.
Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez also had two RBIs apiece in what
was the Tigers' sixth win in seven tries.
Phillies 5, Braves 0
Jerad Eickhoff pitched five-hit ball over seven innings to help
Philadelphia beat last-place Atlanta and avoid a three-game sweep.
Eickhoff, who had given up at least three runs in each of his last
five starts, improved his record to 2-6 and dropped his ERA to 3.86.
He struck out three and walked one while giving up five hits, which
tied a season low.
Blue Jays 3, Twins 1
Early offense and a pitching gem by Marcus Stroman lifted Toronto
over Minnesota Twins to take three of the series' four games.
Stroman (5-1) allowed just three hits over 7 2/3 innings, while
back-to-back home runs by Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson to start
the game gave the Blue Jays all the runs they would need.
Red Sox 5, Indians 2
David Ortiz came within a bad bounce of a potential cycle and drove
in three runs, Rick Porcello became Boston's first seven-game winner
and Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his hitting streak to 27 games, as
Boston defeated Cleveland.

Ortiz continued had four hits, including his 11th home run of the
season, raising his season RBI total to 37. Needing a triple in the
eighth inning for the cycle, he blasted one to the triangle in
right-center that likely would have been a triple, but the ball took
a bounce to the right and over the fence to become his second
ground-rule double of the game.
White Sox 3, Royals 2
Melky Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as Chicago
knocked off Kansas City.
Todd Frazier contributed a pair of hits, including a solo home run,
for the White Sox. Chicago averted a three-game series sweep and won
for the third time in the past 11 contests.
Diamondbacks 7, Cardinals 2
Zack Greinke cruised through eight innings, yielding only five hits
and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts, as Arizona dispatched
St. Louis.
Greinke is 10-2 in his last 13 starts against the Cardinals. The
Diamondbacks are 14-8 on the road and they also clinched their first
season series win over the Cardinals since 2013.
Yankees 5, Athletics 4
Brett Gardner scored all the way from second base on an infield hit
with two outs in the sixth inning, and Starlin Castro followed with
another run-scoring single, as New York rallied to complete a
four-game sweep of Oakland.
Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury hit solo home runs for the Yankees
on a day that began with the Athletics placing ace Sonny Gray on the
disabled list with a strained right trapezius.
Angels 10, Orioles 2
Jered Weaver led Los Angeles to a win over Baltimore at Angel
Stadium.
Weaver snapped a four-game winless streak with seven strong innings
of work. There was only one blemish on an otherwise dominant outing,
a two-run home run by Jonathan Schoop that broke up the shutout with
two outs in the top of the seventh.
Giants 1, Cubs 0
Madison Bumgarner shut out Chicago for 7 2/3 innings and drove in
the only run of the game.
The Giants took two of three in the weekend series between
first-place teams. San Francisco won for the 11th time in 12 games,
while the Cubs lost back-to-back road games for the first time this
season.
Dodgers 9, Padres 5 (17 innings)
Yasiel Puig hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the top of the 17th
inning to lead Los Angeles past San Diego.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Dodgers, who had
lost walk-off decisions to the Padres in each of the first two games
of the series.
Rockies v Pirates, postponed
After playing just one inning, Pittsburgh and Colorado called it a
day because of rain. (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
