[November 17, 2016]  LINCOLN - Mildred M. Maaks ,94, of Lincoln, formerly of New Holland, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on November 9, 2016 at the Christian Village of Lincoln.

Visitation: Monday November 14, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Service: 11 a.m. Monday at the church

Obituary

Mildred M. Maaks ,94, of Lincoln, formerly of New Holland, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on November 9, 2016 at the Christian Village of Lincoln.

Mildred was born on March 21, 1922 in Logan County, daughter of Elmer and Georgia (Sparks) Sheley. She married Marion E. Maaks on December 29, 1944 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2015.

Surviving Mildred are her children: Mike (Tracy) Maaks of New Holland, Duane (Fay) Maaks of Carterville, Richard (Donna) Maaks of Normal, Ronald (Cathy) Maaks of Normal,Mary (Ron) Coulter of Springfield, MO; one daughter-in-law Karen; five brothers: Wayne Sheley, Howard Sheley, Homer Sheley, Jim Sheley, Bob Sheley; one sister: Jessie Rankin; twelve grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son James Maaks, two brothers: George and Richard Sheley, three sisters: Dorothy Synder, Virginia Klockenga, and Betty Downs.

 

Mildred was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of New Holland. She was a retired teacher, she taught in country schools and public schools in San Jose, Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, and St. Peter’s School in Emden. Mildred enjoyed square dancing with her husband.

Services for Mildred will be 11:00 a.m. Monday November 14, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland with Rev. Charles Olander officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial at Richmond Grove Cemetery will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in Mildred’s name to Zion Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
