In Lincoln’s first game Friday, the Lady Railers fell to Peoria
Notre Dame 54-46 despite an 18 point effort from Kaelyn Froebe and
14 points from Kennedy Lolling.
In the second game the Lady Railers fell behind early to the host
team and just could not catch up. Limestone held a commanding 30-11
lead at the half and even though Lincoln outscored the Rockets 23-15
the second half, Limestone handed the Lady Railers their second
loss, 45-34 the score in that one. Kennedy Lolling led Lincoln with
12 points in this contest while Morgan Lolling and Froebe each
tossed in 9 points.
Moving on to Saturday, the Lady Railers hit the court at 9 a.m. for
a matchup with Peoria Manual. Lincoln led this one at the half,
24-21 as the Lolling twins, Froebe and Hailie Williams were all
draining threes. Lincoln saw their lead disappear in the third
quarter, but the game was well within reach as the score was 42-40
in favor of the Rams.
The Rams would go on to outscore Lincoln 15-12 in the fourth quarter
and seal the 57-52 victory.
Junior Kennedy Lolling goes all the
way for the layup as the Lady Railers easily defeated IVC Saturday
afternoon. Kennedy had 58 points in the four games played in the
Limestone Tournament.
Lincoln was 6-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and
only managed two field goals, both coming on threes from Williams.
Kennedy Lolling finished with 18 points for Lincoln and her teammate
Williams finished with 17 points. Both girls drained three threes in
the morning contest for Lincoln.
Peoria Manual had four players in double figures: Mary Lakes (17),
Kenija Fletcher (13), Colby Hughes (11) and Tierra Thomas (10).
Lincoln finally picked up their first win in Saturday afternoon’s
game versus Illinois Valley Central of Chillicothe.
Kaelyn Froebe poured
in 25 points as the Lady Railers took care of the Grey Ghosts
Saturday afternoon. Froebe scored 58 points total in the four games
played in the tournament.
IVC jumped out to a 6-4 lead in this one early in the first quarter,
but Froebe and Kennedy Lolling took over and combined for 21 points
in the first quarter and there was no looking back in this one. When
these two weren’t draining field goals they were busy making layups.
The first quarter ended with Froebe driving right down the middle of
the lane thru traffic and tossing one in underhand. The Lady Railers
lead at the end of one quarter was 24-10.
Kennedy Lolling continued her run on layups to start the second
quarter and then Morgan Lolling connected from long distance for a
three to give Lincoln a 29-10 lead.
The Lady Railers kept putting pressure on IVC and the Grey Ghosts
were surprisingly rattled.
A steal by Froebe at mid-court and the 5’7 junior was off and
running towards the basket again. This time Froebe was fouled on the
missed layup but her momentum allowed her to do a somersault and
come up beautifully, ending with a smile. She proceeded to sink both
free throws and Lincoln was cruising 31-10 with 5:33 on the clock.
IVC meanwhile, continued to struggle and in fact, failed to make a
basket in the second quarter. Froebe would sink a couple more free
throws in the quarter and Haley Hicks would get one to bounce
through the rim and just like that Lincoln had a 35-10 lead heading
into the locker room.
Froebe continued to be on a tear in the third quarter, dropping 10
more points on the Grey Ghosts. By the time Froebe was done scoring
she had 25 points and the Lady Railers had a 52-17 lead, all in
three quarters of play.
Lauren Block’s two points in the paint and a three from Williams in
the fourth quarter extended the lead to 40 points and saying IVC was
struggling might have been an understatement.
Finally, with just under two minutes remaining in the game, the Grey
Ghosts hit one shot and then another as the game came to a close.
Lincoln came away with the 57-21 victory and a win in the scoring
column.
Leading the way was Froebe with 25 points and Kennedy Lolling with
14 points.
Lincoln Head Coach Taylor Richmond appeared to be a little relieved
to get that first win out of the way following three losses to open
play in the tournament, “All three of the first teams that we played
were very disciplined, well-coached teams,” said the coach following
Saturday’s afternoon win.
“Manual had two kids over 6’2,” she said. In fact, those two girls
Richmond is referring to are 6’3 sophomore Rakeea Mables and 6’5
senior Mary Lakes. Lakes is actually committed to Kansas State for
basketball.

Richmond continued, “All three were talented teams. We played hard.
We just couldn’t get the job done and sometimes that happens. But we
came back today and I think that shows just the character of these
girls, they pick themselves up and they go out and play. We did that
in this last game. Hopefully, we have the ball rolling to head into
Monday where we start preparing for Rochester.”
Lincoln hosts Rochester Thursday night at the Roy S. Anderson
Gymnasium with the JV set to tipoff at 6 p.m. The Varsity is
scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lincoln knocked off Rochester 50-46 last season in sectional play.
The rematch is sure to be a good one.
