[October 10, 2016]    RHP Jake Arrieta (18-8, 3.10 ERA in 2016) takes the mound in San Francisco on Monday with a reputation as tough to beat on the road after collecting 11 victories away from home in 2016, the second-most in the majors. He is the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner.

RHP Aroldis Chapman picked up his second save in consecutive games with a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts. He has not allowed a run in his last 11 contests (12 innings) dating back to Sept. 4 and has 21 strikeouts in that span.

LHP Travis Wood hit a home run in the fourth inning -- the third by a Cubs pitcher in postseason history -- and also claimed the victory in a 1 1/3-inning effort after stepping in for starter Kyle Hendricks. It was his second career postseason victory. He also won Game 2 of last year's NLDS in relief of Hendricks. Wood's homer was the second by a relief pitcher in postseason history after the New York Giants' Rosy Ryan hit one in the 1924 World Series.

RHP Kyle Hendricks had a no-decision in Saturday's start after departing with two out in the fourth when he suffered a right forearm contusion on Angel Pagan's liner. He threw several warmup pitches but was deemed unable to resume and was replaced by left-handed reliever Travis Wood. Hendricks worked 3 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on four hits. "Apparently there's nothing wrong as we know it right now," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "I don't know how long it's going to take for him to be well to be able to pitch, but he's fine."
