 On Friday evening, Lincoln defeated Black Hawk College in three
very tight sets 25-23, 26-24, 25-22. In the match, the Lady Lynx got
solid offensive contributions from outside hitters Kenzie Cooper (9
kills) and Kaylyn Hoffert (7 kills) as well as right side hitter
Mattie Giese (6 kills).
Later that evening, LC took on the host school, SCC, and got a real
run for their money. Southeastern came out strong and kept LC off
balance with several kills off of tips and line shots. SCC took set
one 25-23 and held the momentum through most of set two until
Lincoln stepped up their defensive intensity. LC erased a
three-point deficit late in the set to win it 26-24.
Lincoln would take control of the match in set three with an
impressive blocking performance. Lincoln scored seven points off of
blocks and repeatedly disrupted the SCC offense on their way to a
25-13 win. Middle hitters Elysa Smith and Cassidy Sanneman
contributed to the solid effort at the net with 3 blocks each and
libero Melanie Murray dug up 13 balls in the back row.
 In set four, Southeastern again battled, but the Lady Lynx were able
to keep them in check most of the way and won the set 25-22.
Day two of the event saw Lincoln matched up against two JV teams
from Culver-Stockton University.
In the first match, Lincoln defeated C-S White 25-18, 25-20, 25-17
and in the second they handled the C-S Blue team 25-22, 25-20,
25-21.
The wins lifted Lincoln College's overall record to 16-7.
Lincoln next plays at home on Thursday, October 13th against Carl
Sandburg College. The match will be a benefit match for the Emden 5K
ALS Awareness group. All proceeds from the match will go to ALS
research efforts.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "I was quite pleased with the way we played
this weekend. Each of the teams we played presented unique
challenges, and we were able to make the adjustments necessary to
defeat them. Black Hawk had a lot of height and a couple of tough
jump servers, but we were able to match up with them effectively.
"SCC played with a lot of energy and really grabbed the momentum
early, but our blocking stepped up in a big way in set three which
turned the tide of the match. We took care of business against both
Culver-Stockton teams, and we got to try some different lineups
against them which is good for us to do at this time of year.
Overall, it was a fun weekend and a great way to go into our Fall
Break."
