[October 13, 2016]  LINCOLN - Adler Planetarium is taking a trip around the Galaxy, ok, the Midwest, October 10-14, 2016, as it heads to locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois facilitating free, space-themed, interactive science activities and telescope viewing at libraries, museums and other more unexpected places.

In 2015, Galaxy Ride launched as a bike journey bringing a taste of the Adler experience to folks along Route 66. Over the course of one week, Adler educators and astronomers biked 300 miles from Chicago to St. Louis engaging nearly 1,000 kids, adults and families in space science activities.

The Adler Galaxy Rider team, comprised of astronomer Dr. Lucianne Walkowicz, manager of program development Sarah Smail and master educator Michelle Nichols will cover even more ground – via van this time, is hitting the road once again for Galaxy Ride 2.0!

People are encouraged to follow the Galaxy Ride team on Twitter @AdlerPlanet and #AdlerGalaxyRide for updates. Ask Adler astronomers your burning questions regarding space, see great pictures of the ride and follow their progress across four states! And, if you are in the area, don’t forget to come out to see them, say hello, do some science, and share your pictures on social media.

A special program for students from surrounding schools will be held at the Lincoln Public Library on October 14th.

About the Adler Planetarium

The Adler Planetarium—America’s First Planetarium—is more than a museum; it is a laboratory, a classroom, and a community exploring the Universe together. Each year, more than 550,000 visitors experience the museum’s interactive exhibitions, live planetarium shows, hands-on, minds-on STEM education programs, and world-class collections. Founded in 1930 by Chicago business leader Max Adler, the Adler Planetarium is a recognized leader in public engagement. The museum's scientists, historians, and educators inspire the next generation of explorers and invite you to explore space with us.
