Among the “Rollers” was ten year old, Elaine Hyde, granddaughter
of Gary and Lindsey Hughes, who was honing her roll making skills
under the careful tutelage of both grandparents. Elaine is pictured
with a tray of cinnamon rolls ready for baking. The young Harvest
volunteer is learning the cinnamon roll making process, step by
step, under her grandparents careful mentoring.
The 2016 Harvest of Talents actually switched into high gear on
August 24 when Special Event license plates first appeared on local
vehicles. Bearing the Harvest official logo the plates will be
displayed for sixty days until their expiration at midnight on
Harvest Day. Vehicles bearing the plates highlight the Mission of
the local Harvest ministry ~ to raise funds to feed hungry and
hurting people worldwide, in Jesus’ name.

Attention then shifted to “Buck’s Dynas”tea”, a first time September
men’s event of the Harvest, featuring a variety of wild game and
topped off with mouth watering homemade pies. The event honoring
long time Harvester (and recycler) “Buck” Snyder was hosted by Barry
and Julie King , Harvest Team members .The Guys Night Out, which
included door prizes and a guest speaker, was deemed by those in
attendance as a “tasteful success” and will make a return to the
			Harvest schedule in 2017.
Just two days following the men’s event, the sanctuary of the
Lincoln Church was the site of the Musical Offering for World
Hunger, playing to a full house. With Tim Searby as Director, and
Kay Dobson and Linda Storm , at the piano and organ, a host of
soloists and ensembles performed a variety of “standards” to the
delight of music lovers. The afternoon closed with an 85 voice choir
performing “How Great Thou Art” and closing with a rousing version
of “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. A generous free will offering was
received in the name of the world’s hungry and hurting people.

On September 23 the 2016 Harvest of Talents Prayer Calendar made its
appearance, both in printed form and on line. Believing that prayer
is a critical component of the Harvest, the ministry produces a
booklet of devotions, one for each of the thirty days preceding the
Harvest. Each devotion is written especially for the Calendar by
members of Lincoln Christian Church and Harvest friends across the
country, as well as five youth contributors to the current edition.

The on-line version is accompanied each day by a Harvest photo in an attempt to
give those who have not attended a glimpse of the Harvest and providing precious
memories to those who can no longer attend. (Prayer calendars are available at
the office of Lincoln Christian Church or at the on-line site http://eepurl.com/bylg7n.)
Workshops and kitchens in Logan County and across the country are humming with
activity in preparation for the 33rd Annual Harvest of Talents for World Hunger.
Harvest Day will feature a 7 a.m. breakfast of homemade cinnamon and caramel
pecan rolls and a luncheon of Harvest vegetable soup, sandwiches and homemade
pie. Outside Harvest vendors will also offer a variety of sandwiches, snacks,
flavored coffees, hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Hundred of handmade items,
many one of a kind, will be offered for sale beginning at 7 a.m. Highlight of
the day is a 2 p.m. Auction featuring quilts, furniture, photography, stitchery,
art, woodworking, stained glass and repurposed items.
