Second through fifth grade students from Carroll Catholic,
Northwest, West Lincoln Broadwell, and Washington Monroe gathered on
the library lawn to get a fascinating idea what our universe is
like.
Over 200 students from the Lincoln schools showed up at the library
for their chance to see the universe while enjoying a beautiful day
outside under a beautiful blue sky.
Michelle and Sarah from the Adler discussed the sun and its UV rays
and sunspots, the earth and moon, the alignment of the planets, and
how astronomers use color filters to study the universe.
During their trip around the Midwest this fall, the Galaxy Ride
astronomers have visited Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.
After Lincoln, the Galaxy team traveled to Normal Friday evening to
conclude their trip. This is the second year the Galaxy Ride has
visited Lincoln. Last year the Adler teachers rode their bicycles
from Chicago to St. Louis giving astronomy lectures along the way.
They chose to use the SUV this year so that they could visit more
communities.

The Adler Planetarium is a wonderful place to
visit with all sorts of exhibits and programs for all ages. They
are having their annual overnight camp-out in the planetarium
later this year.
