College’s Creekside hosting Fall Festival
Special dedication of log cabin and
prairie grass

LINCOLN
- Creekside’s Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 22
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Creekside Outdoor Center for Environmental
Education. The family friendly event is free and open to the public.

The festivities will commence with special dedication ceremonies
to honor donors who are supporting the environmental learning
opportunities. Starting at 10:30 a.m. a special dedication ceremony
will take place for the Bill and Jean Gossett Tall Grass Prairie.
Following that ceremony, at 10:45 a.m., the Pete Fredericks Log
Cabin will be dedicated.
Fredericks, a local business owner, originally donated the cabin to
Lincoln School District 27 in 2001 and in June of this year, the
cabin was donated and relocated to Creekside.
Visitors will have a variety of opportunities to explore Creekside
and participate in activities including, planting the new Pollinator
Prairie. The prairie is funded by a grant Creekside received from
the Illinois Native Plant Society Central Chapter. The family
friendly event will include:
- pumpkin decorating
- pumpkin ice cream-making demonstration and ice cream samples
- nature walks to Sugar Creek
- children’s story time at the outdoor classrooms
- educational displays and yard games
- local vendors
- live music by the LC Jazz Combo at 11:30 a.m.
- Emily Johnson and Jonathan Thomas at 12:30 p.m.

In addition, a nature photography and selfie competition will
take place. A special Flickr site has been created for the

Visitors planning to eat during the festival can enjoy on-site
concession.
Creekside is located approximately 4 miles due north of Lincoln,
Illinois, off County Road 2000N halfway between County Road
1100E and 1225th Ave; from Co Rd 2000N take the gravel road
Small-Edwards Trace north to the center.
