Oct 24 (The Sports Xchange) -
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has a torn ACL and is out for
the season.
Coach Todd Bowles said on Monday that an MRI confirmed the tear.
Smith will visit with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday to seek a second
opinion, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.
Smith suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Baltimore
Ravens when he twisted the knee on a second-quarter sack. Making his
first start since Dec. 28, 2014, Smith completed 4 of 8 passes for
95 yards and a touchdown before leaving.
As a result of the injury, the Jets will return to Ryan Fitzpatrick
as their starting quarterback.

Jay Cutler will start at quarterback for the Chicago Bears when they
host the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 31 after healing from a sprained
thumb.
Backup Brian Hoyer suffered a broken left arm playing against the
Green Bay Packers in the Bears' 26-10 loss on Thursday and had
surgery on the weekend.
Fox said Cutler was eager to play even while Hoyer went through a
stretch of 200 passes without an interception, five shy of a Bears
record.

New England quarterback Tom Brady weighed in on the NFL's continuing
problem with domestic violence amid the outrage over New York Giants
kicker Josh Brown.
Brady knows a thing or two about NFL punishment after he received a
four-game suspension to start the season over Deflategate, in which
the league claims the quarterback played a role in deliberately
deflating footballs before the AFC Championship Game in 2015.
In his weekly radio interview with WEEI radio in Boston, Brady was
asked about Brown, who was given a one-game suspension to start the
season and was subsequently placed on the commissioner's exempt list
last week after documents were released showing the kicker admitted
to physically abusing his now ex-wife.
"Domestic violence is a horrible issue," Brady said Monday. "I have
no respect for that. The NFL claims to take tough stances, this is
their situation."

Giants kicker Josh Brown apparently will not appeal the NFL's
decision to place him on the commissioner's exempt list.
Brown was put on the exempt list on Friday after newly documents
released last week by the King County (Wash.) Sheriff's Office
showed he admitted to years of physical, verbal and emotional abuse
against his then-wife Molly Brown.
The kicker had three days to appeal the league decision, but a
league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday that Brown is not
expected to appeal.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant remains on track to make his
return to the lineup after missing the last three games with a
hairline fracture in his right knee.
Bryant, who has not played since injuring the knee against the
Chicago Bears on Sept. 25, is expected to return to action on Sunday
night when the Cowboys (5-1) face the Philadelphia Eagles (4-2).

The Cleveland Browns claimed quarterback Joe Callahan and offensive
lineman Gabe Ikard off waivers and waived defensive back Darius
Hillary and fullback Malcolm Johnson.
Callahan, a 23-year-old rookie out of Wesley College, was claimed
from the New Orleans Saints after Browns starting quarterback Cody
Kessler left Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a
concussion.
Kessler remained in the concussion protocol on Monday, leading
Cleveland to bring in its seventh quarterback this season.
