As Logan County’s only indoor, producer-only farmers market, a
variety of Illinois-grown produce is still available as the market
season comes to a close. There are still a variety of items
available at The ALMH Market during the month of October.
“You get the best of summer and you get fall all in one market. So
you can expect to see things like tomatoes, and sweet peppers, green
beans…and then you get tender sweet greens like arugula, spinach,
swiss chard and kale. And on top of that, you get all those fall
winter roots like sweet potatoes, rutabagas, turnips and radishes,”
said Katie Bishop of Prairierth Farms, an organic farm based in
			Atlanta.

In addition to the produce, the final Saturday morning market will
feature an apple cider demonstration and children’s costume contest
at 9am. Every child aged 2 through 12 who attends in costume will
earn $2 in market tokens. Children dressed as a vegetable or fruit
will earn $4 in market tokens. Trick or Treat with the mayor will
take place at 10am. Hope Grows will provide free activities and
Healthy Communities Partnership is sponsoring a free inflatable
obstacle course and bounce house from 8am to noon. The Zoo Lady will
also be on-site offering free face painting. The Central Illinois
Community Blood Center’s Bloodmobile will also be on-site hosting a
			blood drive.

The ALMH Market is also partnering with the Lincoln and Logan Chamber of
Commerce to bring a Zombie Run to the fairgrounds at 10am on October 29.
Experienced and first time runners, along with walkers, are sure to have a good
time running from the zombies. Runners are challenged to make it to the finish
line while avoiding zombies and keeping all of their vital organs (flags)
attached. Registration is available online at www.lincolnillinois.com or at The
ALMH Market on race day.
“We are thrilled with the support we have had during our first market season.
The ALMH Market has successfully increased access to fresh produce, promoted
healthy lifestyles and supported the local agricultural community,” said Angela
Stoltzenburg, ALMH marketing and community partnerships manager.
