Motorists should refrain from wearing a mask or bulky costume
while driving as both can reduce efforts to safely operate a
vehicle. Pedestrians should only cross streets at designated cross
walks and make extra efforts to ensure it is safe to cross. Children
should be reminded not to cross the street between parked vehicles
and to look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
"Halloween is a time when family and friends come together for
celebration. Drivers are reminded to be watchful for children
crossing the street," said ISP Colonel Tad Williams. "Always
designate a driver before consuming alcohol. ISP Troopers will be
out in force this Halloween conducting roadside safety checks and
roving patrols. Remember to buckle up and don't drive distracted."

Children should use reflective tape, glow sticks, or flashlights to
make sure they remain visible while trick-or-treating. Motorists
need to ensure they are following the rules of the road and remain
alert for children wearing less visible clothing while driving
through residential areas.
The ISP also encourages the public to report suspicious activities. "Recent
reports of clown disguises being worn publically outside of celebratory events
have become a concern for public safety officials. If you see something, say
something. Call 911 and let police investigate suspicious behavior," Williams
stressed.
