Oct 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh
McCown will return as the starter on Sunday for the first time since
suffering a broken collarbone in Week 2.
Coach Hue Jackson announced Friday that the veteran will lead the
offense when the winless Browns (0-7) host the New York Jets (2-5)
at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Quarterback Cody Kessler, who was 0-5 as a starter, remains in the
NFL's concussion protocol and has been ruled out. The other
quarterbacks on the roster are rookies Kevin Hogan and Joe Callahan.
With Kessler sidelined, Hogan will be the backup.
McCown's return comes after he suffered a broken left collarbone
against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 18 in his only game this
season. He was medically cleared Wednesday and practiced fully for
the first time since the injury. He had been doing limited work in
practice the previous two weeks.

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson was placed on injured
reserve after undergoing surgery on his right knee one day earlier.
Anderson underwent an arthroscopic procedure to repair meniscus
damage. A timetable for his return hasn't yet been determined but
the decision to place him on injured reserve means he would have to
miss at least eight games.

Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones has been ruled out of
Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals in London.
Jones, the team's leading rusher with 460 yards, did not practice
all week. The second-year running back out of Florida rushed for 27
yards on 10 carries while committing a costly fumble in last
weekend's 20-17 loss at Detroit.
Rookie Rob Kelley, an undrafted free agent out of Tulane, is
expected to start in place of Jones while Chris Thompson assumes the
duties of third-down back.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has been ruled out of
Sunday's game at the Indianapolis Colts.
Charles is dealing with soreness in both knees and has recurring
swelling in his surgically repaired right knee, prompting coach Andy
Reid to make the early decision on his availability for Sunday."
It was up
and down and we just want to back him off here and see if we can't
get that thing to settle down," said Reid in reference to the
swelling, a result of a torn ACL sustained by Charles a year ago.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan plans to stay with Gus Bradley
as his head coach despite an ugly 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans
on Thursday night and a 2-5 record this season.
Khan, who met with the team earlier in the week after a 33-16 loss
to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, told the Florida Times-Union he
would not fire Bradley.
"Actions speak louder than words. Very little for me to say," Khan
told the newspaper moments after the loss to the Titans before
saying Bradley would not be fired.
Bradley is 14-41 in his four seasons with the Jaguars.

Former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer is battling Alzheimer's
disease, ESPN.com reported Friday.
Schottenheimer, 73, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's five
years ago. He is about to start a trial of a new drug that may slow
down the debilitating disease. (Editing by Andrew Both)
