Obituary
James V. Pierce, 84, formerly of Chicago, passed
away Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 at his home at
Greenwood Village, Greenwood, Indiana.
Born April 1, 1932, in Lincoln. James was the only
son of Harry Bryan and Vera Mae (Croft) Pierce. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his older
sister, Patricia Ann Wittekind, and a niece, Vicki (Wittekind)
O'Hara. Surviving are his sisters, Rose Ellen (John)
Cessna of Springfield and Linda Sharon (Lowell)
Pinney of Greenwood, Indiana as well as nine nieces
and nephews.
James grew up on the family farm five miles
southeast of Middletown. He graduated in 1950 from
Middletown High School and in 1954 graduated from
the University of Illinois. After college, James
joined the United States Army and served in Worms,
Germany. While there he saved his leave time and
traveled around much of Europe. Upon return to
civilian life, James attended the University of
Chicago and earned a master's degree in business
finance. He had a long career as a financial analyst
for International Harvester/Navistar at their home
office on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. |
In his younger days, James traveled extensively all over the United States on
his motorcycle and went skiing in the winter. An avid reader, he was extremely
knowledgeable about politics, history, literature, music and art.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, August 26th, 2016 at Holland
Barry and Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held there at 11
a.m., August 27th with Rev. John Cross officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant
Valley Cemetery north of Middletown.
Those who wish may leave memorials in James' name to the Middletown Legion
Auxiliary.
