Lincoln College Women's Volleyball

[September 15, 2016]  On Tuesday, the Lincoln College Women's Volleyball team hosted The defending NJCAA DII National Champion, and currently #1 ranked Parkland College Cobras.

Parkland controlled the net in the early going and was able to build a sizable lead in both sets one and two to win each by wide margins (25-14, 25-12), but in set three LC broke through and was able to stay with the Cobras throughout the set.

The two teams battled their way to a 24-24 tie when freshman setter Abbi Buelow delivered an ace serve to put LC up by one. Parkland managed a side out, but a quick kill down the line by sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Cooper and a Cobra hitting error gave Lincoln the 27-25 set win to extend the match.

In set four, Lincoln showed more confidence and was able to maintain a one or two point advantage through most of the early going. The lead grew to 18-14 on an ace serve from freshman DS Jenna Weller, but Parkland was able to side out on the next volley then go on a three point run to tie the match at 18-18.

From there the two teams traded side outs and played several long rallies before PC was able to reach set point at 24-21.

LC managed a side out and a point to tighten the score, but a Parkland kill after a long rally gave them the 25-23 win. Lincoln moves to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in Region XXIV play.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "I was impressed with the way our team hung in against one of the top teams in the nation. We got stronger as the match went on and gained a lot of confidence from this match.

"Even though the scores in sets one and two were lop sided, we had some very strong volleys with them and did not give up points easily. Our players kept at it and didn't give up, which paid off in a thrilling set three win and we were able to carry that momentum into set four.

"It's unfortunate that we were not able to push it further, but it to see our team compete as well as we did against an opponent as strong as Parkland is very encouraging."

Next up for Lincoln is another home match on Thursday against the Millikin JV at 6:30 p.m.
