Sept 19 (The Sports Xchange) -
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has reached a
settlement with the state of Rhode Island regarding his involvement
in a failed video-game company.
Schilling and officials with 38 Studios will pay $2.5 million to
Rhode Island as part of an agreement to settle the state's $75
million lawsuit against the company, WCVB-TV in Boston reported on
Monday.
The firm, started by Schilling, relocated to Rhode Island from
Massachusetts in 2010 and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
Schilling blamed the company's failing on Rhode Island's economic
development agency and steadfastly denied any wrongdoing.

New York Mets left-hander Steven Matz is expected to throw a bullpen
session at Citi Field on Wednesday. If it goes well, Matz could
start on Friday. He has a left shoulder injury.

Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, a four-time
All-Star and the National League MVP last year, was given a break
and held out of Monday's starting lineup against the Miami Marlins.

On Sunday, Harper snapped a 0-for-17 skid with a single in his final
at-bat.

Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez, who has pitched 174 1/3 innings
this season, will likely pitch just two more games this year -- on
Tuesday against the Washington Nationals and on Sunday against the
Atlanta Braves.
The Marlins do not want to extend him too much past 180 innings in
his first full year after elbow surgery.
