Lady Wolverines - Week one recap

[September 21, 2016]  The Lady Wolverine basketball team is off to a fierce beginning. Both teams opened up against Decatur Lady our Lourdes, the team who knocked both teams out of the post season last year. The 7th and 8th grade teams came out refocused and ready to roll and defeated both OLOL teams. The 7th Grade team won 40-24 and the 8th grade team won by a score of 44-24.

The 2nd game of the season for both teams was against Christ the King and was the beginning of the Springfield Gym School Tournament. West Lincoln Broadwell entered the tournament as the only 1A team in the tournament as most teams were 3A and 4A. Once again, the Lady Wolverines came out with a vengeance and defeated both CTK teams. The 7th grade score was 36-19 as the 8th grade team won by a score of 39-13.

The 3rd game of the season was also part of the Springfield Tournament. Both teams again faced off against the same team Decatur Robertson. Both teams again came out on top. The 7th grade came out on fire and won by a score of 44-18. The 8th grade followed suit and also defeated Robertson by a dominate margin of 47-17. This put both teams in the Tournament Championship.

The 4th game of the season was the “ship” for both teams. The 7th grade team faced a much taller East Alton team. With their tenacious defense and strict fundamental basketball they defeated East Alton by a score of 47-17. Kloe Froebe also earned MVP of the entire 7th grade Tournament. The 8th grade team faced last years undefeated and 3A state champions St. Agnes-Blessed Sacrament. The 8th grade team came out a bit hesitant but found their grove and bounced back in the second half. It wasn’t enough as the 8th grade Lady Wolverines were defeated by a score of 33-45.

5th grade game of the season the Lady Wolverines were once again on the road as they traveled to Decatur Hope Academy a 2015 final four 2A state finalist team. The 7th grade team came out on fire leading at half by a score of 29-5. Hope Academy battled back but the Lady Wolverines held on to the victory by a score of 48-31. This puts the 7th grade Lady Wolverine Basketball team at 5-0 on the season. The 8th grade team came out a bit sluggish and fell behind 8-11 at the end of the first quarter. WLB fought back and won all remaining quarters and the game by a score of 41-31. The 8th grade Lady Wolverines are now 4-1.
