			Highlights from Major League Baseball games on Tuesday: 
			 
			Cardinals 10, Rockies 5 
			 
			Adam Wainwright, who turned 35 three weeks ago, has shown his age 
			this season and was not at his best, but more than made up for any 
			mound shortcomings with his bat. 
			 
			His career-high four RBI helped the Cardinals beat the Colorado 
			Rockies 10-5, which tied them with the New York Mets for the top 
			wild-card spot in the National League. 
			 
			Wainwright doubled home two runs in the third off Jorge De La Rosa 
			and singled home two runs in the fifth off Eddie Butler. 
			 
			Wainwright (12-9) worked 5-1/3 innings, the third time in four 
			starts he failed to reach the sixth. 
			 
			Cubs 6, Reds 1 
			 
			Jon Lester claimed his National League-leading 18th victory as 
			Chicago beat Cincinnati. 
			 
			Lester (18-4) allowed one run on six hits while striking out five 
			and walking none in a seven-inning outing. His 18 wins are the most 
			since going 19-9 with the Red Sox in 2009. 
			 
			Anthony Rizzo was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, Kris Bryant added three 
			hits and Dexter Fowler reached base four times. 
			 
			Red Sox 5, Orioles 2 
			 
			David Ortiz got his 36th home run, a three-run shot in the seventh 
			inning, as the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to six 
			games. 
			 
			Boston increased their lead over Baltimore to five games in the 
			American League East. 
			 
			Eduardo Rodriguez (3-7) picked up his first win since July 16. He 
			was charged with two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over 
			6-1/3 innings. 
			 
			Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 with two runs, while Jackie Bradley Jr. 
			got his 26th homer. 
			 
			Phillies 7, White Sox 6 
			 
			Odubel Herrera went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, two 
			stolen bases and three RBIs to power Philadelphia over the White 
			Sox. 
			 
			Over his last seven games, Herrera is now 15-for-28 (.535) with two 
			home runs, four doubles and six RBIs. 
			 
			White Sox starter James Shields lasted 5-1/3 innings before getting 
			pulled after giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits. 
			
			
			  
			Braves 5, Mets 4 
			 
			Julio Teheran allowed one run over seven strong innings as the 
			Braves continued to play spoiler with a 5-4 win over the New York 
			Mets. 
			 
			The Braves (60-91) have won the first two games of the three-game 
			series against the National League wild card-leading Mets (80-71), 
			who entered Tuesday with a one-game lead over the San Francisco 
			Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. 
			 
			Teheran (6-10) allowed just five hits and one walk while striking 
			out one. He exited with a 5-1 lead after retiring 15 of the final 16 
			batters he faced following Asdrubal Cabrera's RBI double in the 
			third. 
			 
			Indians 2, Royals 1 
			 
			Brandon Guyer's pinch-hit double with two outs in the bottom of the 
			ninth inning gave the Cleveland Indians a 2-1 victory over the 
			Kansas City Royals. 
			 
			Andrew Miller (9-1) pitched 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief to get 
			the win. Brian Flynn (1-2) took the loss. 
			 
			The win reduced the Indians' magic number for winning the AL Central 
			Division to six games. 
			 
			Yankees 5, Rays 3 
			 
			The New York Yankees got three singles in the seventh inning to tie 
			the Tampa Bay Rays then a three-run home run from Gary Sanchez to 
			rally for a 5-3 win. 
			 
			Tampa Bay had a 2-1 lead in the seventh, thanks to a strong start 
			from lefty Drew Smyly, who held the Yankees to four hits in six 
			innings. 
			 
			Reliever Brad Boxberger then gave up singles to Ronald Torreyes, 
			Mason Williams and Brett Gardner, the last tying the game at 2-2. 
			 
			With two outs, Rays pitching coach Jim Hickey visited the mound and 
			opted to keep Boxberger in and Sanchez crushed the next pitch for a 
			three-run homer. 
			
			
			  
			Marlins 1, Nationals 0 
			 
			Jose Fernandez pitched eight scoreless innings and Giancarlo Stanton 
			hit a home run as the Miami Marlins defeated the Washington 
			Nationals. 
			 
			Fernandez (16-8) struck out 12 and allowed just three hits and no 
			walks. It was his ninth double-figure strikeout game of the season 
			as he retired 21 consecutive batters.

			Rangers 5, Angels 4 
			 
			Nomar Mazara added to his Rookie of the Year candidacy with his 20th 
			home run to lead Texas past Los Angeles. 
			 
			Mazara leads all American League rookies in homers, RBIs, hits, runs 
			and total bases. He's the fourth rookie in Texas franchise history 
			to hit at least 20 home runs. 
			
			Tigers 8, Twins 1 
			 
			Miguel Cabrera hit his 442nd career home run to back Matt Boyd's 
			career-high eight innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota 
			Twins. 
			 
			Boyd (6-4) gave up just three hits and one walk. He tied a career 
			high with seven strikeouts. 
			 
			Cabrera's 34th homer of the season was a two-run liner to left in 
			the seventh inning to tie him with Dave Kingman for 41st in major 
			league history. He also passed Joe DiMaggio for 48th all time with 
			1,538 RBIs. 
			
			
			  
			
			Pirates 6, Brewers 3 
			 
			Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer drove in two runs each and the Pittsburgh 
			Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers. 
			 
			Adam Frazier finished with three hits while Andrew McCutchen, 
			Francisco Cervelli and Mercer recorded two each for the Pirates. 
			 
			Astros 2, Athletics 1 (10 innings) 
			 
			Tony Kemp hit a leadoff double in the 10th inning and scored the 
			go-ahead run on George Springer's single as the Houston Astros 
			defeated the Oakland A's. 
			 
			The Astros moved within two games of the second American League 
			wild-card spot. 
			 
			Kemp, who had a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh inning, lined a 
			double off A's left-hander Sean Doolittle in the 10th, then moved to 
			second on a sacrifice bunt before Springer grounded a single past a 
			drawn-in Oakland infield. 
			 
			Reliever Chris Devenski (4-4) pitched 3-2/3 innings perfect innings 
			for the win, striking out four. 
			 
			Giants 2, Dodgers 0 
			 
			Solo homers by Eduardo Nunez in the fifth and Brandon Belt in the 
			ninth held up for San Francisco in a 2-0 victory over the Los 
			Angeles Dodgers. 
			 
			The Giants (80-71) managed to pull back within five games of the 
			Dodgers (85-66) in the National League West with 11 games left. The 
			New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals are also 80-71, leaving them 
			and the Giants in a three-way tie for the two NL wild-card spots. 
			 
			The Giants came at a price with pitcher Johnny Cueto (17-5) leaving 
			the game in the sixth inning with a groin strain, while shortstop 
			Brandon Crawford exited with a fractured left pinkie finger. 
			 
			Cueto is listed as day-to-day, while there was no immediate 
			timetable for Crawford's return. 
			
			
			  
			
			Blue Jays 10, Mariners 4 
			 
			Toronto's J.A. Happ became baseball's second 20-game winner as the 
			Blue Jays used an eight-run fourth inning to rout Seattle. 
			 
			Happ (20-4) pitched five innings, allowing two runs and six hits 
			while striking out eight, and got plenty of support as Toronto piled 
			up 14 hits including four home runs. 
			 
			The Blue Jays (83-68) moved into first place in the American League 
			wild-card standings, one game ahead of Baltimore. 
			 
			Seattle (79-72) is three games behind the Orioles in the race for 
			the second spot. 
			 
			Padres 5, Diamondbacks 2 
			 
			Adam Rosales drove in four runs with a pair of sacrifice flies and a 
			tiebreaking, two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead San Diego to 
			a rain-delayed victory over Arizona. 
			 
			Paul Goldschmidt had two hits for the Diamondbacks, including a 
			two-run, sixth-inning homer.
