Obituary
Don F. McCann 87 of Lincoln passed away at 1:05 p.m.
September 13, 2016 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital.
Don was born June 6, 1929 in Chestnut, to Leonard
and Amy Irene Israel McCann. He is survived by his
wife Patty Jean Wagner McCann, of 60 years;
Surviving children are one son, Kim (Janice) McCann
of Sarasota, Florida and daughter Amy Jones of
Springfield. He is also survived by Grandson Drew
Jones of Springfield, also surviving step
grand-daughter Karen Adame and step great grand
children Cody, Logan, and Kaydin of Naples, Florida.
Don graduated from Mount Pulaski High School in 1947
and Bradley University where he earned a Bachelor of
Science Degree in 1951. He then enlisted in the Army
for 3 years during the Korean conflict. In 1957, he
had the privilege of being the first local
individual employed by Cutler-Hammer, Inc. as
Personnel Manager; with responsibility for staffing
their new manufacturing facility in Lincoln. He
retired in 1993 after serving as Human Resource
Manager. He was a member of St. John United Church
of Christ. |
Don served on several local committees including
terms on the board of Lincoln Chamber of Commerce
and Abraham Memorial Hospital. He was a member of
the Lincoln American Legion, Life member of Lincoln
Elks Lodge #914, Mount Pulaski Masonic Lodge #87,
Mount Pulaski Commandery # 39, Springfield
Consistory Ansar Shrine and Logan County Shrine and
Logan County Shrine Club.
Services for Don will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday
September 16, 2016 at St. John United Church of
Christ with Rev. Dan Dexter officiating. Visitation
will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday
September 15, 2016 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Donations can be made to St. John’s Children
Hospital or The Shriners Hospital for Children or
donor’s choice.
