County briefs: Flu vaccines available and 2017 budget on display

[September 27, 2016]  LINCOLN - On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, the Logan County Board held their Regular meeting to vote on motions and resolutions from several committees and hear brief updates.

Board members present were Kevin Bateman, Emily Davenport, Bob Farmer, David Hepler, Pat O'Neill, Gene Rohlfs, Chuck Ruben, Scott Schaffenacker, and Adam Schmidt. Rick Aylesworth, Dave Blankenship and Miles Craig were absent.

Update from Health Department

Logan County Public Health Department Administrator Don Cavi said flu vaccines are now available. He said they no longer have the nasal spray since the Center for Disease Control did studies on it and deemed that it is not really effective.

Cavi said they will offer a flu clinic at the courthouse Monday, October 24 from 10-12. LCDPH accepts major insurance.

Cavi said 46 counties have shown West Nile Virus activity with 30 human cases. He said with hot weather, mosquitoes are still out and people should be careful.

 

Finance Committee

The board unanimously approved Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Ruben's motion to put the Fiscal Year 2017 County Budget on display. It will be on display for 30 days. Ruben thanked Amy Kuhlman for all her help in putting the budget together.

The nine board members present also unapproved eight resolutions for tax deeds.

Personnel Committee

Board members present unanimously approved Ruben's motion for new compensatory time language to the Logan County Personnel Policy. The changes affect the board office personnel only and were discussed in previous months.

Road and Bridge

The board approved Road and Bridge Chairman Bob Farmer's motion for a resolution to appropriate $32,500 from the county bridge fund to assist Mount Pulaski Township in repairing three bridges.

Appointment

The nine members present unanimously approved the appointment of James Terrell to the Middletown Fire Protection District.

Chairman's report

Chairman Hepler said Lincoln's Challenge Academy has hired Sheila Pollett as their new regional coordinator.

Hepler said a representative from Senator Brady's office will be available to meet constituents once a month in the Veteran's Assistance Commission office during lunch hours.

Hepler said he talked to people at the Viper Mine and their work situation is very stable. People have been working full time and they have hired several new employees.
