- Joseph Powell Bennett, 87, of Sherman, formerly of Greenview, and
Elkhart, passed away at 9:04 a.m. Saturday March 18, 2017 at Villa
Health Care East in Sherman.

Obituary
Joseph Powell Bennett, 87, of Sherman, formerly of
Greenview, and Elkhart, passed away at 9:04 a.m.
Saturday March 18, 2017 at Villa Health Care East in
Sherman.
Joe was born on July 26, 1929 in McDaniels, KY, the
son of Julian Joseph and Nellie Ray (Powell)
Bennett. He married Erma Fae Heissinger on February
14, 1954 in Williamsville. She preceded him in death
on January 10, 2016.
Surviving Joe are his daughters, Brenda (Roger) Doll
of O’Fallon, Jill (Dan) Urish of Mount Pulaski, Jodi
(Randy) VanKeuren of Champaign, three grandchildren,
Abby Doll of Washington, D.C., Tyler Urish of St.
Louis, MO, Reed VanKeuren of Champaign, and one
sister Clara Jane (Ken) Johnson of Lincoln. Joe was
preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother
Ralph, and one sister Nell Boner.

Joe served his country during the Korean War. He was
a member of the Elkhart Christian Church, Middletown
American Legion, the Williamsville Masonic Lodge AF
& AM and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
A graveside service for Joe will be at 1:00 p.m.
Friday March 24, 2017 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in
Williamsville. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00
p.m. Thursday March 23, 2017 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Following the graveside service, the family would
like to invite everyone back to the Huddle House in
Williamsville for a celebration of life.
Memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor
Flight or to the Logan County 4-H.
