[April 04, 2017]    On Friday evening, the Lincoln College men's volleyball team earned a victory at home with a three set sweep of the visiting Trinity Christian College varsity team. The Lynx (22-16) had a difficult time scoring off of their serve in the first set as Trinity found ways to side out effectively and keep the score close. Late i the set, Trinity led 18-17, but a kill down the line from sophomore outside hitter Kyle Murphy tied the score and two quick service points from junior middle hitter Michael Wesley put LC up for good. The Lynx would go on to take set one 25-21.

In set two, LC trailed by two or three points throughout the early going, but an 8-1 scoring run by LC put Lincoln in command 19-13. The comeback was fueled by solid blocking at the set by the Lynx front row which recorded six points off of blocks during the set. Lincoln would hold on to win set two 25-21.

Set three saw Lincoln jump out to an early lead and cruise to a 25-17 win to end the match. Sophomore outside hitter Corey Poindexter from Overland, MO had a big night for LC. Poindexter led the team in kills with eleven and served three points and had two blocks. Setters Bryan Orellana and Jake Fleming directed the offense by dishing out a total of 33 set assists. Freshman libero Dylan Russin had sixteen digs and middle hitter Deantius Coleman led all front row players with four blocks.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: We certainly showed up to play tonight and executed well in all aspects of the game. We were especially focused behind the service line which kept the pressure on Trinity to side out. I also thought we played a solid match defensively. Ourt blockers in the front row did a fantastic job of disrupting their offense and the back row was solid all night. This was a nice team win and a good sign as we head into the final stretch of our season which is when every team wants to be playing their best ball.

Lincoln will host a scrimmage with Illinois State on Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM then compete in the MWPVC Conference Championship Tournament hosted by the University of Missouri this weekend.
