[April 03, 2017]    Over the weekend, Lincoln College’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams battled some of the toughest competition in the mid-west at the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Classic. The meet featured 11 different NCAA Division I schools and many powerhouse programs from other divisions. This meet was only scored for DI programs, but the Lynx had several participants that placed in the top ten of their respective events.

The Lady Lynx track team had several strong showings at this event. Sophomore Apeasha Ashby from Parker, Colorado placed 6th overall in the 400 meter dash. The 4 x 100 relay team of Ashby, freshman Taya Burse (Hannibal, MO), sophomore ShaTavia Lowery (East Moline) and freshman Stacia Lee (Decatur) finished 7th. Lowery also competed in the triple jump and finished in 8th place overall. Freshman Carrissa Tinsley of Colfax placed 4th in the javelin.

On the men’s side of the event, sophomore Dontae Adams from Hammond, Indiana finished 9th in the 100 meter dash. The 4 x 100 relay team of freshman Dwight Johnson (South Holland), sophomore Roman Hampton (Peoria), sophomore Tommie Van (Plainfield) and Adams raced to a 6th place finish. Freshman Kendrick Griffin of Springfield was 9th in the high jump.

LC Track & Field Coach Brian Herron: We knew going into this meet that top 8 finishes were going to be very hard to get. This meet was more to see where we stood against some very tough competition. In many areas our athletes stepped up to that level of competition. We still have some work to do as we start to head into the heart of our schedule. Our freshman are starting to step up more as they are gaining experience.

The Lynx will be in action again at Knox College on Saturday, April 8th. The meet will begin at 11:00 am.
