In recognition of National Public Health Week, Governor Bruce Rauner,
through a proclamation, has declared April 3-9, 2017, as Public Health
Week in Illinois and calls upon “residents to observe this week by
helping our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and leaders better
understand the value of public health and adopt preventative lifestyle
habits in light of this year’s theme.” The theme for this year is
“Healthiest Nation 2030.” The Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH)
also joins the Governor in recognition of Public Health Week.

Public health plays an important role in the well being of
communities across the nation and in Logan County. Some of the
greatest achievements attributed to public health according to the
Centers for Disease Control include the development of
immunizations, motor vehicle safety, safer workplaces, control of
infectious diseases, decline in heart disease and stroke fatalities,
safe and healthier foods, healthier mothers and babies, family
planning, fluoride in drinking water and recognition of tobacco as a
health hazard. The LCDPH and public health agencies nationwide play
a substantial role in accomplishing these achievements.
To celebrate Public Health Week, the LCDPH welcomes Southern
Illinois University (SIU) Center for Family Medicine who began
operations of their new medical clinic on April 3, 2017 at the
health department located at 109 3rd Street, Lincoln, Illinois. The
construction of the clinic was made possible by the Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital (ALMH) Foundation. In addition to medical care,
SIU will oversee operation of the dental clinic and the health
department will continue to provide traditional services.

The addition of the SIU medical clinic to the community will help
meet a public health initiative by making access to affordable
quality healthcare a reality for many. The SIU Center for Family
Medicine clinic is now taking appointments. To schedule your medical
appointment, contact the Logan County Department of Public Health at
217-735-2317. SIU looks forward to partnering with LCDPH and ALMH to
serve Logan County area residents to meet their medical and dental
needs.
