Guerrero was in a coma Monday night and underwent a procedure
in which a tube was placed through a hole in the skull to drain
fluid from the brain, according to Rafael Ortiz, the lead
surgeon who specializes in major brain issues at Lenox Hill
Hospital.
Guerrero, 60, is breathing with the support of a ventilator and
is heavily medicated.
"It could go either way," Ortiz said. "He's still recovering and
could go on to live a meaningful life, but it's too early to
tell."
Guerrero was a four-time All-Star for the Dodgers from 1978 to
1988, and he made one All-Star team while with the St. Louis
Cardinals.

Oakland A's starting pitcher Sonny Gray, who opened the season
on the disabled list, is making great progress in his recovery
from a right lat strain.
Manager Bob Melvin said the team expects to see him throw off
the mound as early as this week.
Gray was projected to be the A's Opening Day pitcher before
being injured during spring training.

The Milwaukee Brewers recalled left-hander Brent Suter from
Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace injured Opening Day starter
Junior Guerra.
Guerra was placed on the 10-day disabled list after straining
his right calf while running out a bunt during Monday's loss to
the Colorado Rockies.
Suter, 27, appeared in 14 games for the Brewers last season and
went 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA.
Left-hander Tommy Milone will likely start when Guerra's
rotation spot next comes around. (Editing by Andrew Both)
