"Palettes Gone Wild" opens April 13th

[April 06, 2017]   LINCOLN - Logan County Arts and the Lincoln Art Institute will continue their art-filled calendar for 2017 with their April exhibit, “Palettes Gone Wild”. The show will debut with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 at the Lincoln Art Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln, next to the US Post Office.

As in their 2016 show with the same title, LCA members will have a chance to try new avenues of expression and to display works that may not have fit any of the group’s recent themes. Reports from various studios indicate that the art on display will include photography, sculpture, painting and mixed media from artists Margie Douglas, Mitch Douglas, Suzanne Faulkner, Jason Hoffman, Laurel Hogan, Pam Moriearty, Bev Noble, Moses Pinkerton, Nancy Saul, Rob Swofford, and others.

With this freedom of approach there are sure to be some interesting surprises in the gallery. Nature photographer Bev Noble is turning to acrylic painting to reimagine the wildflowers she has been photographing in the woods. Sculptor Moses Pinkerton is putting the finishing touches on a new creation in wood. He says, “I find working with negative space interesting. To take something away, knowing you won’t be able to add touches of it back later, is a challenging exercise.” Rob Swofford, unwilling to decide between doing a two dimensional and a three dimensional piece, is creating a work that is a hybrid of the two genres.

After the initial reception, the “OPEN” flag flying in front of the Institute will indicate when the gallery is open. Otherwise, the show will be available for viewing until early May by chance or appointment. Visitors may ring the doorbell, and if Pinkerton is available he will open the gallery. Also available at the “Palettes Gone Wild” opening will be information on the May, 2017 LCA Young Artists exhibit. That show will feature artworks by Lincoln Community High School students and college arts program students from the area.
