Last weekend the Men’s Golf team traveled to Soangetaha Golf Course in Galesburg to participate in the 18-team Prairie Fire Classic. This was the team's first event of the spring season and the first for the Lynx under the direction of new head coach Nick Adcock.

On day one of the event, the weather was as much of an obstacle as anything else as temperatures stayed in the low 40s throughout the day. Strong winds and periodic showers made for difficult playing conditions. Despite these challenges, Lynx Sophomore Cody Curry of Mason City managed a solid opening round score of 78. Fellow sophomore Hunter Bettis from Bluff, IL came in with an 80. Bettis overcame a rough start to his day going 7 over through the first 5 holes. Sophomore Brandon Savage (Rochester) finished the day at 85, while Caleb Przykopanski (Mt. Pulaski) shot 92 and Josh Matthews (Delavan) recorded a 93.

On day two the weather conditions were much friendlier. Bettis, who showed more confidence in his putting during this second round of play, fired a team low 73. Matthews turned in a round of 78 thanks to some nifty chipping around the green. Curry had a difficult time with his puttiing on day two and the result was a disappointing score of 81. Savage finished with an 88 and Przykopanski rounded out the day with a 95.

Lincoln finished 12th overall in the event. Hunter Bettis was the team's highest individual finisher. Bettis tied for 14th place overall while Cody Curry finished tied for 40th.

"Overall I thought it was a good way to start the year. We haven't gotten to work on the course too much because of the weather, but I believe they handled themselves pretty well. We wanted the results to be better, but we will get there. All the guys missed quite a bit of short putts over the weekend and that's something we will definitely work on. Lots of greens were missed also, but some work will fix that up." -Coach Adcock

The Lynx will be back in action when they travel for the Elmhurst Invite at Oak Brook Golf Course on April 17th.
