Lincoln Railsplitters Softball Team comes up just short in back to
back games with Glenwood

The Lincoln Railsplitters lost two close games on the
softball diamond to Glenwood this week. On Tuesday afternoon in
Lincoln the ladies fell to Glenwood 7-6 in extra innings. On
Wednesday afternoon the ladies lost on the road in Chatham by a
score of 13-12.
In Tuesday’s extra-inning affair, Lincoln pounded out 13 hits, led
by three freshmen who combined for seven of those hits. Chloe
Laubenstein was 4-5 with 2 RBIs, Sydney Sutherland was 2-4 with two
runs scored and Sydney Worth was 1-4 with a run scored.
Senior Hope Moos was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Glenwood took a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning but Lincoln
got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the inning. An RBI
double by Laubenstein led the offensive attack for the Railsplitters
in that second inning.
A solo home run by Moos in the bottom of the third inning pulled
Lincoln to within a run, trailing just 5-4.
Lauren Block added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning
to tie the game at 5-5.
Glenwood reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning but the
Railsplitters mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh
inning. Lincoln managed to score the tying run here and send the
game to extra innings.
With the game knotted at 6-6, Glenwood scored on a double in the
eighth inning and took the 7-6 win from the Railsplitters.
Kerstin Osborne pitched eight innings for Lincoln, giving up 10
hits, seven runs and striking out five batters.
Glenwood on Wednesday
In Wednesday’s ballgame, Lincoln’s bats pounded out 14 hits, led by
senior Lauren Block. Block was 4-4 with two home runs and three
RBIs.
Lincoln jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Block hit
the first of her two home runs.
Lincoln put four more runs on the board in the top of the fourth
inning to take a 7-0 lead on an RBI single from Osborne and a
three-run home run by Moos.
Glenwood came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored
four runs. A Lincoln error accounted for two of those runs and a
single by Olivia McClintock drove in the other two runs for
Glenwood.

Lincoln would get those four runs back in the top of
the fifth inning and continue to lead 11-4. A fielder’s choice by
Maddie Tanner and a home run by Osborne accounted for some of the
offense in the fifth inning.
Glenwood answered back in the bottom of the inning with five runs,
the big blow being a grand slam by Rachel Sandvos.
Lincoln took a 12-9 lead when Block hit her second home run of the
game in the top of the sixth inning. Glenwood kept chipping away at
Lincoln’s lead and successfully tied the game at 12-12 in the bottom
of the sixth inning.
With Glenwood getting the last at-bat on the home field, they scored
the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Sydney
Paulauskis-Lauher singled off Osborne to drive in the game winner.
Lincoln falls in heartbreaking fashion for the second day in a row,
13-12 to Glenwood.
Osborne was 3-4 for Lincoln and had four RBIs and three runs scored.
Laubenstein was 2-5 at the plate and scored two runs for the
Railsplitters. Moos was 1-5 for Lincoln with four RBIs.
Moos also started the game pitching for Lincoln and went five
innings while Osborne finished the game and took the loss.
Lincoln is home later today for a makeup game versus Southeast at
4:30 p.m.
