ST. LOUIS -- Dexter Fowler crushed a
tiebreaking grand slam in the seventh inning Thursday as the St.
Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals 8-6 for their sixth
straight victory.
The Cardinals swept the four-game, home-and-home I-70 interleague
series.
Fowler ambushed the first pitch from reliever Neftali Feliz, lofting
it into the bleachers behind the St. Louis bullpen in right-center
for his 15th homer of the year. It was the third career slam for
Fowler, who knocked in a career-high five runs.
Kansas City pulled within 7-6 with a three-run eighth. Pinch hitter
Brandon Moss drilled a two-run double off the right-center-field
wall, and Whit Merrifield followed with a sacrifice fly. Paul DeJong
added an RBI double for the Cardinals in the eighth.
Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 6
PHOENIX -- Chris Taylor homered, Justin Turner had two hits and two
RBIs, and Yu Darvish won his second straight start since joining Los
Angeles as the Dodgers defeated Arizona.
Los Angeles took the final two games of the three-game series. The
Dodgers have not lost a series since June 5-7, when they started
their current 46-8 stretch. Los Angeles has won 15 of its past 18
series and split the other three.
Arizona's Chris Iannetta hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning,
and Ketel Marte had a two-run single in the eighth to account for
the final runs. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth
inning for his 30th save.
Nationals 3, Marlins 2
WASHINGTON -- Brian Goodwin led off the eighth inning with a home
run as Washington came back to defeat Miami.
It was the 13th homer of the year for Goodwin, who went deep against
reliever Junichi Tazawa (1-2). Ryan Madson (2-0) retired all three
batters in the eighth after Brandon Kintzler pitched a scoreless
seventh.
Sean Doolittle tossed the ninth to get his seventh save with the
Nationals. Doolittle allowed a one-out double to Miguel Rojas before
retiring Dee Gordon (two hits) for the final out as Andrew Stevenson
made a diving catch in left near the foul line.
White Sox 3, Astros 2 (11 innings)
CHICAGO -- Yoan Moncada hit a game-tying home run in the ninth
inning and delivered a walk-off single in the 11th as Chicago
completed a sweep of American League-leading Houston.
Moncada's game-winning single off the Astros' Francis Martes
finished off the rally. Leury Garcia singled to open the 11th and
took second base on an error.
Moncada tied the game in the ninth inning on a one-out solo home run
off Astros closer Ken Giles, who had converted 22 of 24 save
opportunities this season before Thursday. David Holmberg (2-3)
earned the win, while Martes (4-2) took the loss.
Rays 4, Indians 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Corey Dickerson broke out of an 0-for-21
slump with a three-run homer with two outs in the eighth, propelling
Tampa Bay past Cleveland.
The Rays had mustered four runs in their previous five games,
including three shutout losses, and were mired in a 1-1 tie with two
runners on base. With one swing, Dickerson got himself and his team
out of slumps with his 22nd home run of the season.
Alex Colome pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 34th save. The Indians
have had their own struggles at the plate, losing four of the last
five and scoring a combined five runs in those four losses.
Blue Jays 4, Yankees 0
TORONTO -- Marco Estrada pitched seven scoreless innings to earn his
first win since May 27, and Jose Bautista homered as Toronto
defeated New York.
Estrada (5-7) allowed five hits and three walks while striking out
six. He had gone 12 starts without a win. Ryan Tepera pitched around
a single in the eighth, and Roberto Osuna walked two but struck out
three in the ninth.
Sonny Gray (6-7), starting for the second time since the Yankees
obtained him in a trade with the Oakland Athletics, allowed four
hits, four walks and three runs (two earned) in six innings. The
right-hander struck out six and is 0-2 with New York.

Angels 6, Mariners 3
SEATTLE -- Mike Trout hit a three-run double to break a tie with two
outs in the top of the ninth inning as Los Angeles defeated Seattle.
The Mariners also lost starter James Paxton to a left pectoral
strain in the seventh inning. Seattle tied it in the eighth on home
runs by Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz off Bud Norris (2-5).
After the Mariners rallied from a three-run deficit to tie it in the
eighth, Seattle brought on Edwin Diaz, who was pitching his third
straight game. Diaz (2-5) walked the bases loaded, and Trout lined
an 0-1 pitch down the left-field line to snap the tie.
Orioles 7, Athletics 2
OAKLAND -- Baltimore twice hit back-to-back home runs on consecutive
pitches and Wade Miley produced his first quality start since June 1
in its victory over Oakland.
Trey Mancini hit a pair of home runs to reach 20 for the first time
in his brief career. Adam Jones hit his 21st home run -- a
tape-measure blast -- and Mark Trumbo snapped an 0-for-24 slide to
hit his 18th.
Miley (6-9) allowed one run (unearned) and three hits in seven
innings. He struck out seven and walked three while throwing 111
pitches (66 for strikes).
Twins 7, Brewers 2
MILWAUKEE -- Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton had three hits apiece as
Minnesota won its fifth straight game.
Miguel Sano and Jorge Polanco each finished with two of the Twins'
12 hits. Minnesota reliever Alan Busenitz (1-0) worked 2 2/3
scoreless innings to earn his first major league victory.
Milwaukee's Zach Davies (13-6) gave up seven runs (six earned) on a
career-high 11 hits and two walks while striking out three over 5
2/3 innings.
Mets 10, Phillies 0
PHILADELPHIA -- Wilmer Flores and Michael Conforto belted three-run
homers as New York went deep four times in its rout of Philadelphia.
Neil Walker and Curtis Granderson also homered for the Mets, who are
4-0 at Citizens Bank Park this season with 14 home runs.
New York's Jacob deGrom (13-5) struck out nine and did not walk a
batter in 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed only four hits.
DeGrom was forced from the game when Nick Williams' line drive
struck him on the right triceps. X-rays were negative, and deGrom
doesn't expect to miss a start.
Pirates 7, Tigers 5
DETROIT -- Gerrit Cole won his seventh consecutive road start in his
longest outing of the season as Pittsburgh held off Detroit.
Cole (10-8) limited the Tigers to three runs on six hits over eight
innings. He struck out seven and retired the last 11 batters he
faced. The outing was the longest for Cole since he threw a complete
game against Seattle on July 27, 2106.
Josh Bell and Sean Rodriguez homered and drove in a combined five
for Pittsburgh, which has won six of its last eight. Nicholas
Castellanos drove in two runs with his American League-leading ninth
triple for the Tigers, who have lost five of six.
Reds 10, Padres 3
CINCINNATI -- Scooter Gennett hit a grand slam and Eugenio Suarez
added a solo shot, both off Brad Hand in the seventh inning, as
Cincinnati won the finale of a four-game series.
With San Diego leading 3-2, Hand walked Joey Votto to load the
bases. After a strikeout, Gennett belted Hand's first pitch for his
third career grand slam. Two pitches later, Suarez launched a solo
shot, putting Cincinnati ahead 7-3.
Zack Cozart added a two-run homer and Votto belted a solo shot off
Phil Maton in the eighth inning. Votto extended his hitting streak
to 15 games with his 30th homer.
