Maroa-Forsyth 13
Mount Pulaski 0
Maroa jumped out to a first inning lead on the power of a 2-run
HR. Mount
Pulaski avoided further damage by turning a double play on a
comebacker to starting pitcher Evan Cooper, who tossed to
shortstop Gavin Smith for one out before Gavin relayed to first
baseman Jackson Fricke to complete the twin killing.
Maroa scored four more times in the second inning while showing
off a high
powered Jr. High offense. The game stood at 7-0 when a diving
catch by MP left fielder Lane Murphy resulted in yet another
double play when the Maroa runner strayed from second base
during the "play of the day catch."
The game remained at 7-0 until the sixth inning. In that frame,
Maroa's big
offense put up six more runs.
Ironically, MP completed yet another double play when Jackson
Fricke snared a bullet of a line drive and then touched third
base before the Maroa runner could get back. In total, the play
was the fourth double play completed by a MP defense that
committed zero errors in the game.
Evan Cooper took the loss for MP and also had the only MP hit of
the game.
MP's three pitchers threw a strike on the first pitch 68 percent
of the time. Offensively, MP hitters struck out seven times.
MP is now 0-1 on the new season and travel to Mason City for a
date with
Illini Central on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
