Aug 18 (The Sports Xchange) - The Chicago Cubs placed left-hander
Jon Lester on the 10-day disabled list Friday with left lat
tightness and shoulder fatigue, but the injury is not expected to be
season-ending.
Lester was pulled in the second inning of Thursday's game against
the Cincinnati Reds due to the injury and saw a team doctor after
the game. He allowed nine runs (seven earned) in 1 2/3 innings as
the Reds outlasted the Chicago Cubs 13-10.
"There's no minimum or maximum, just that it's a 10-day stay and
then we'll figure it out," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters
Friday of Lester's return.

arrival of Bella Raine Jeter.

The Kansas City Royals placed right-handed reliever Joakim Soria on
the 10-day disabled list, the team announced.

with the issue for most of August. Soria is 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA and
has struck out 59 batters in 50 innings.
Kansas City recalled right-hander Kevin McCarthy from Triple-A Omaha
to fill the vacancy. McCarthy has made 19 appearances for the Royals
this season and is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder/designated hitter Robbie
Grossman on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb.
Grossman, playing right field, suffered the injury in Thursday's
second game of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians after he
collided with center fielder Byron Buxton on a fly ball in the gap
in the second inning.
Grossman singled in his first at-bat after the collision but was
replaced before his turn came up the second time around.
To replace Grossman on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled catcher
Mitch Garver from Triple-A Rochester. [© 2017 Thomson Reuters. All
