NFL Note - New Orleans Saints Unger, Max
C Max Unger has begun on-field work after undergoing offseason foot
surgery. He has yet to participate in team drills, but remains on
schedule to see action by the third or fourth preseason game. Head
coach Sean Payton said Unger remains on schedule and the goal has
been to have him ready to start the season opener Sept. 11 at
Minnesota. "I'm pretty confident that he's going to receive some
preseason work in a game," Payton said. Payton said he didn't expect
Unger to play Sunday.

TE Coby Fleener and LB Stephone Anthony missed Thursday's and
Friday's work against the Chargers because of undisclosed injuries.

NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Williams, *Mike
WR Mike Williams continues to miss practice and he certainly won't
play in Sunday's preseason game against the visiting New Orleans
Saints. Williams, the No. 7 overall pick, remains out with a back
injury. The team is hopeful that Williams is making strides and can
return soon. But how quickly he can be folded in the offense would
be curious to see. His injury dates to the first offseason practice,
so he's missed valuable time leading up to training camp.

NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Verrett, Jason
CB Jason Verrett is seeing more snaps in practice as he gears up for
a possible summer debut against the Saints. Verrett, a Pro Bowler,
is coming back from knee surgery. "We want him to play a couple of
snaps this week to start working his way back in," head coach
Anthony Lynn said. "We'll see where he's at. I don't want to push
it."

NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Gordon, Melvin
RB Melvin Gordon got to work with one of his idols in the Saints'
Adrian Peterson. The two train together in the offseason. "The sky
is the limit for him," Peterson said. "The main thing is just
staying healthy. If he has a healthy season, I see him being one of
the top backs in the league. He has that type of ability."

LT Russell Okung returned to practice on Friday after missing

FS Desmond King, a fifth-round pick, continues to show up in
practice. King intercepted the Saints' Drew Brees in one of the two

OG Terran Vaughn was signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Friday. The
6-3, 306-pound Vaughn spent time on the Buffalo Bills' practice

2016 offseason program and training after being signed as an
undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin.

NFL Note - New England Patriots Rivers, Derek
DE Derek Rivers' rookie season with the New England Patriots may be
over due to a knee injury. The Patriots fear they have lost their
top pick (third round, 83rd overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft out of
Youngstown State for the entire season, league sources told ESPN on
Friday. Rivers, 23, was injured on a kickoff coverage drill
Wednesday in a joint practice in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., with
the Houston Texans. Before the Patriots traveled to Houston for a
preseason game Saturday night, the team sent Rivers back to Boston
for more tests. Those tests reinforced the team's initial fear of a
season-ending knee injury, according to ESPN. The 6-5, 250-pound
Rivers, who was projected to be part of a rotation at defensive end,
played 41 snaps in last Thursday night's preseason opener against
the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 41 sacks in his college career,
including 14 as a senior in 2016.

NFL Note - Arizona Cardinals Langford, Ryan
LB Ryan Langford signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. The
6-4, 235-pound Langford was with the Houston Texans during training
camp and the preseason in 2016 after signing as an undrafted rookie
free agent out of New Mexico. Langford, 24, played his final two
collegiate seasons at New Mexico (2014-15) after beginning his
career at Iowa Western.

NFL Note - Chicago Bears Howard, *Jordan
RB Jordan Howard sustained a corneal abrasion during a walk-through
practice Friday and has been ruled out for the team's preseason game
against the Arizona Cardinals. Howard, who was selected to the Pro
Bowl last season, did not travel with the team to Arizona for
Saturday's game. Howard rushed 252 times for 1,313 yards with six
touchdowns in 15 games last season and had 29 receptions for 298
yards and a score. The 22-year-old rushed three times for four years
in the preseason opener last week.

NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Lowery, Dwight
FS Dwight Lowery intercepted a pass from Saints backup Chase Daniel
in a recent practice. Lowery, a starter last year, is trying to hold
off Tre Boston for the first-team spot. The competition at free
safety continues to be one of the most spirited ones in camp.

NFL Note - Pittsburgh Steelers Watt, *T.J.
OLB T.J. Watt has been impressive during training camp and has
apparently earned the starting job over veteran James Harrison.
Outside linebackers coach Joey Porter told the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette that Watt and third-year player Bud Dupree, a
first-round pick in 2015, will start and there will not be a
rotation as has been the case in the past few seasons.

LB Zachary Orr announced his retirement from the NFL due to a
congenital spine condition. Orr went in-depth with his explanation
for his decision on The Players' Tribune, just two months after he
ended his initial retirement in January. Orr wanted to rejoin the
Ravens, but was told by general manager Ozzie Newsome that "he would
need to pass a physical." "So the Ravens flew me up to Baltimore for
a workout and a physical," Orr wrote on the Players' Tribune. "But
at the end of the day, their doctors stood by their initial decision
and said they couldn't clear me to play -- not with my spinal
condition. They said it was too big a risk, both for them and for
me."

NFL Note - Baltimore Ravens Zuttah, Jeremy
C Jeremy Zuttah signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on
Friday after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers. Zuttah's
deal is worth nearly $4 million in base salary, with a maximum of $6
million in incentives, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Zuttah started three years in Baltimore (2014-16) before being
traded to San Francisco in March.

OLB Deiontrez Mount was waived/injured by the Indianapolis Colts. If

the Colts' active roster and practice squad last season.

with one touchdown and two interceptions in his first NFL game
against the Giants last week.

year, Bundy made five catches for 73 yards.
