Obituary
Charles Edward Ridgeway Sr., 93, of Broadwell passed
away on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
Charlie was born on July 22, 1924 in Mechanicsburg,
the son of Leslie Ridgeway and Teanie Judy Ridgeway.
He married Ruth Annette Langenbahn on October, 10,
1943 in Bowling Green, MO. She preceded him in death
on February 25, 2006.
Charlie is survived by his children, Ron (Hazel)
Ridgeway of Broadwell and Judy (Simon) Aper of
Broadwell; eight grandchildren; eleven
great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Doris
Langenbahn of Lincoln; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Charlie was a member of the Illinois Sheriff’s
Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the
Eagles. He was also a member of Broadwell Christian
Church. Charlie retired as a welder from Fiat Allis
in Springfield with 30 years of employment. He also
worked at Siebs Hatchery and Stetson China Company.
Charlie enjoyed gardening and ornamental welding at
home. Charlie had a great sense of humor and always
had a joke for everyone he met. |
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his
wife, his son, Charles Ridgeway Jr. and his wife,
Ruthann Cook Ridgeway; three brothers; seven
sisters; and one great-granddaughter, Hinley Ann
Freese. Charlie was the last of his immediate
family.
Services for Charlie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on
Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Ryan Edgecombe
officiating. Visitation will take place from
5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 also at
the funeral home. Burial will take place after the
services at Kline Cemetery in Broadwell.
Memorial donations may be made in Charlie’s name to
Broadwell Christian Church.
